WhenyouareregisteredfortheMinorAilmentService, yourpharmacistcangiveyoumedicineforaminorillness orcomplaint,iftheythinkyouneedit.youwillnothave topayforthis. Who is the service for? YoucanusetheNHSMinorAilmentServiceif: youareregisteredwithagpsurgeryinscotland,and n youareunder16,orunder19andinfull-timeeducation n youare60orover n youhaveavalidmaternityexemptioncertificate, medicalexemptioncertificate,orwarpension exemptioncertificate n yougetincomesupport,income-basedjobseeker s Allowance,Income-relatedEmploymentandSupport Allowance,UniversalCreditorPensionCredit GuaranteeCredit,or n youarenamedon,orentitledto,annhstaxcredit exemptioncertificateoravalidhc2certificate. Youcan tusethenhsminorailmentserviceifyoulive inacarehome. 1
3 How do I register for the service? TheNHSMinorAilmentServiceisavailablefrom pharmaciesacrossscotland. Youcanchoosewhichpharmacytoregisterwith. Youcanregisteratanytime youdon thavetomake anappointment. Whenyouregister,yourpharmacistmayaskyouforsome information,includingyourname,dateofbirthandpostcode. TheywillalsocheckwhetheryoucanusetheNHSMinor AilmentServiceandmayaskyouforproof,forexample yourmaternityormedicalexemptioncertificate.try to remember to bring this proof with you. Yourpharmacistwillcompleteaform,whichyoumustsign. Yourpharmacistwillcompleteaseparateformforeach memberofyourfamily,includingchildrenunder16,or under19andinfull-timeeducation. Youcanonlyregisterfortheservicewithonepharmacy atatime.ifyouregisterwithanewpharmacy,youwill nolongerberegisteredattheoldpharmacy. 2 While you are registered for the service you can still make an appointment to see your doctor whenever you like. Rememberthatevenifyoucan tusethisfreeservice, youcangotoyourpharmacistforadviceortobuy amedicineforaminorillnessorcomplaint.
4 How does the service work? Youwillbeabletogetadviceandfreetreatment (ifyouneedit)fromyourpharmacistforminorillnesses andcomplaints,suchas: acne athlete s foot backache cold sores constipation cough diarrhoea earache eczema and allergies haemorrhoids (piles) hay fever headache head lice indigestion mouth ulcers nasal congestion pain period pain thrush sore throat threadworms warts and verrucae Yourpharmacist,likeyourdoctor,canonlygiveoutcertain medicinesandproducts.youmaynotgetthemedicineor productyouwouldnormallybuy. Ifyourpharmacistfeelsitisbetterforyoutoseeyour GP,theymayreferyoudirectlyoraskyoutomakean appointmentwithyourgp. 3
5 Can I still go to other pharmacies? Yes,youcangotoanypharmacytobuymedicinesor collectotherprescriptions.however,youwillneedtogoto thepharmacyyouhaveregisteredwithtousetheservice. What if I m unhappy about the service I have received from the pharmacy? Ifyoucan,firsttalktothepharmacistsotheycantryto sortoutyourcomplaintimmediately. Ifyoucan tdothis,orifyouhavealreadyspokentoyour pharmacistandarestillunhappy,youcanmakeacomplaint.
