2 Staff Changes We would like to welcome two new Registrars Drs Jenna Wa, Louise Gardner and our F2 Isabel Pereira who will be with us until August We are sorry to announce that Dr Dodd will be leaving Brierley Park Medical Centre on the 30 th June; a book for farewell messages is available at reception. There will be a farewell presentation on Wednesday 15 th 6:00pm everyone welcome! Dr Nailah Narra will be our new salaried GP and she will be joining us on the 3 rd August. Dr Genillard will be returning from maternity leave on the 4 th July. Detailed Coded Record From 31 st March 2016 you will be able to access your Detailed Coded Record. This means that all coded entries in your patient record will be visible including tests results. All patients requesting access to their record must complete the application form Online access to my medical record and provide two forms of identification one of which must be photo ID. Existing patients who currently have access for prescriptions and on-line appointment booking will also have to complete the forms and provide ID. 3 Advice for staying well in the hot weather Stay out of the sun Keep your home as cool as possible shading windows and shutting them during the day may help. Open them when it is cooler at night Keep drinking fluids If there's anybody you know, for example an older person living on their own, who might be at special risk, make sure they know what to do Advice on how to reduce the risk either for yourself or somebody you know can be found through: o NHS Choices at o NHS 111 o Your local chemist Smokefreelife Nottinghamshire Smokefreelife Nottinghamshire is the free Stop Smoking Service operating throughout Nottinghamshire. 4 Changepoint Changepoint offers services for adults (excluding pregnant women), children and young people. You may be offered a referral to changepoint by one of our healthcare professionals Or You can refer yourself.

5 Hay fever Hay fever is a common allergic condition that affects up to one in five people at some point in their life. Symptoms of hay fever include: Sneezing A runny nose Itchy eyes You'll experience hay fever symptoms if you have an allergic reaction to pollen. You can have an allergy to: tree pollen, released during spring grass pollen, released during the end of spring and beginning of summer weed pollen, released late autumn Self-help tips It's sometimes possible to prevent the symptoms of hay fever by taking some basic precautions, such as: wearing wraparound sunglasses to stop pollen getting in your eyes when you're outdoors taking a shower and changing your clothes after being outdoors to remove the pollen on your body staying indoors when the pollen count is high (over 50 grains per cubic metre of air) applying a small amount of Vaseline (petroleum gel) to the nasal openings to trap pollen grains If this isn t working There are lots of treatment options available including antihistamines, eye drops and nasal sprays. Many of these are available over-the-counter so ask your Pharmacist for advice.

6 TIPS TO AVOID WASTED MEDICINES! If you don t need the medicine, please don t order it! If you need the medicine in the future you can still request it! Once you leave the premises, unopened medicines that are returned cannot be re-issued and have to be destroyed. Check your medicines before leaving the pharmacy. ORDERING PRESCRIPTIONS Did you know you can order your prescription on line! For further information please ask at reception. Did you know you can have your prescription go to a pharmacy of your choice electronically (You don t need to pick the prescription up from the Surgery)! For further information please ask your pharmacy.

7 Who can use Pharmacy First? Patients must be registered with a GP. The scheme treats patients over three months old with no upper age limit. Children under three months should always be treated by their doctor. The scheme includes all children up to 16 years old. Patients should be exempt from prescription charges. The patient should always be present at the consultation in the pharmacy. Medicines will not be provided for the store cupboard or just in case. The pharmacist may not always provide medicines. Any treatment or medicines provided will always follow the guidance laid down in the agreed protocols. Pharmacists can only provide medicines that are listed in the agreed formulary under the Pharmacy First scheme. Patients who are referred to their GP by the pharmacist do not automatically jump the queue. They should receive an appointment in line with the practice s reception protocols.

Athlete s foot Bacterial conjunctivitis Constipation Diarrhoea Earache Haemorrhoids Hay fever Head lice: 'Head lice - what happens in the pharmacy' Head lice - the treatment' Insect bites and stings Sore throat Teething pain Temperature or fever Threadworm Toothache Vaginal thrush Warts and verrucas Where can I access Pharmacy First? You can access the service at most community pharmacies. Look for the Pharmacy First logo or ask at the counter.
