3 Prerequisite Basic knowledge of statistics equivalent to BASTA (basic statistics) in module 1, first study year on the Master of Science in Physiotherapy or completed equivalent courses.. Description of the module This study guide describes the module Statistical method analyzing the effects of interventions which is an elective course in statistics placed on the 3. Semester (autumn) in the Master of Science in Physiotherapy. Aims of the course The aim of this course is to make the students able to evaluate the effects of interventions using appropriate statistical methods, and evaluate and discuss the appropriateness of the statistical methods used. Learning outcomes After completing the course the student is expected to have Basic knowledge and understanding of: the prerequisite for choosing statistical test evaluating differences between two or more groups. different types of statistical methods evaluating differences between two or more groups including multiple linear and multiple logistic regressions analysis and analysis of variance. Skills to: choose the most appropriate statistical method for a given analysis. perform the statistical analysis using STATA. understand and perform adjusted data analysis in STATA. evaluate the appropriateness of using different statistical methods in analyzing data. present results of basic data-analysis in graphic in figures and tables. Generel competence to: perform statistical analysis and argue for the appropriate statistical methods. write the statistical analysis section in a protocol / article in interventions studies. [3]
4 Language The course will be in Danish. However, if one or more participants/s does not speak or understand Danish sufficiently the teaching language will be English. Teaching methods Lectures 2 or 3 hours every morning followed by individual and group exercises. All students are expected to participate actively in the exercises either individually or in groups Course workload 5 ECTS Guiding distribution of the workload Course 5 ECTS. (5 ECTS x 27.5 hours = hours). Activity Work load hours Lectures. 6 days, 3 hours each day. 18 Individual and group exercises (supervised). 6 days 3 hours each day. 12 Question class 5 Preparation for lectures 72,5 Written assignment 30 Course workload 137,5 Evaluation form The module in Statistical method analyzing effects of interventions is evaluated by intern evaluation based on a written assignment. The assignment must be written in Danish or English. The assignment will be evaluated with the 7-step scale. The assignment consist of two parts [4]
5 Part A: based on a case and given dataset the student should write a statistical analysis plan containing: a. description of data b. choice of statistical methods c. sensitivity analysis d. model assumption Part B: based on cases and given datasets the student should perform a statistical analysis and argue for the methodological choices. The assignment must not exceed sign including space (approximately 10 normal pages á sign); exclusive title page, reference list and appendixes and has to follow "General guidelines in written assignment at the master of science in physiotherapy". If judged not passed (meaning 00 or -03 on the 7-scale) reassignment using the same evaluations form and guidelines must be performed within 4 weeks. Criteria for exhaustive fulfilment of the learning outcome The candidate should show knowledge of the prerequisite for choosing statistical test analyzing differences between two or more groups. The candidate should be able to formulate a statistical method section choose the most appropriate statistical method for a given analysis performing the statistical analysis using STATA understand and perform adjusted data analysis in STATA. evaluate the appropriateness of using different statistical methods in analyzing data. present results of basic data-analysis in graphic in figures and tables. Evaluation of the module The module is evaluated electronically. will be send to the participant at the end of the module. Beside the electronically evaluation the module is evaluated orally with either the course coordinator or the director of studies for the Master of Science in Physiotherapy.
