2 Applicaon Magnec smulaon is a highly innovave method that can be used to in uence the electrical acvity of the nerve cells non-invasively and virtually pain-free. The smulaon is realized by short magnec pulses that induce a ow of current in brain areas close to the surface via a smulaon coil. Depending on the posion and type of magnec smulaon, neuron funcon is inhibited or enhanced. The neurophysiological e ect of rtms (repe- ve TMS) is dependent largely on the smula- on parameters used. 3 Depression Andepressants are not e ecve and electroconvulsive therapy is not yet necessary. Repeve TMS can be used to bridge this therapeuc gap in therapy-resistant depression. Increased blood ow in the TMS smulated area increases the metabolism of the brain. New smulaon protocols such as the high frequency 50 Hz theta burst smulaon (TBS), promote increased brain acvity in the prefrontal cortex of the paent. A classic TBS series consists of daily individual treatment sessions (600 smuli per day, ~5 min treatment duraon) of the le side of the brain over a period of two to four weeks. 4 Smulators The MAG & More smulaon systems consist of two components: the magnec smulator and treatment coil that is used to transfer energy into ssue. The use of various types of coils allows the system to be con!gured within seconds for any applicaon. 7 Treatment coils Circular coil This coil is disnguished by high penetraon depth and large-area smulaon. It is equally suited for corcal, spinal and peripheral applica- ons. 8 PC-interface Up to four PowerMAG devices can be controlled at the same me via the PC interface. The associated USB device driver provides an open programming interface which can also be used to run complex smulaon programs. TMS is fully integrated in the TMS trolley - the exible arm allows for opmal alignment of the 3D camera. Intelligent tracker soluons enable simple and fast TMS setup.
