2 WHO (World Health Organization) calls for Sugar Intake Reduction WHO has a new recommendation: maximum free sugar intake be reduced to 5 teaspoons daily from the current limit of 10 teaspoons Free Sugars are added by a manufacturer or consumer and are not naturally occurring (such as in fruit, for example) Trade groups representing the sugar industry have responded that There is nothing wrong with sugar. There is no evidence it causes health problems. Sugar is not related to obesity. Many experts note that the tobacco industry once made similar types of arguments.

3 Avoid added sugars A new study (using mice) looked at the effects of an added sugar diet Group 1: received 25% of their calories from added sugar (equal to 3 cans of soda for humans) Group 2: Control diet, no added sugar Study lasted just over a year Results Female mice in the sugar group had double the death rate of the female mice in the control group Male mice in the sugar group had 25% less offspring than male mice in the control group Male mice in the sugar group were 26% less effective at protecting their territories than mice in the control group
