1 Welcome Back! 11 April 2016 The children were excited to be back and see all their friends again. Everyone had news to share. Milan Henry Do you know what it is? It s April!! Yes it s autumn, all the leaves fall off the trees. And they change colour. I ve got trees at my house that are changing colour some leaves are pink and some are green. What were some of the things you did in the holidays? We went to the farm. Me and Abbey played in a secret bush to play in. There were special covered paths to play on to. Arabella I went camping. We put up tents and slept in them at night time. Did you have a sleeping bag? Arabella We slept on a mattress and had a blanket. Did the Easter Bunny go with you? Arabella There were Easter Eggs in Grandpa s shoes! Milan My holidays were very good. I went to Daydream Island. We went on 3 things. 1 a plane, 2 a bus, 3 a boat. My brother came and my Grandma and Grandpa. There were 4 pools but they were too deep for me. I went in the sea. Billie Clara Henry Aiden Blake I went to my friends house for a play Sayer, Ava and Gussy. They had a giant beanie boo! I saw a big waterfall. I went fishing and I caught 2 fish. I went to the zoo with Freddie and Ollie, Nanny and Pa. Snakes were my favourite. I went to the fish tank café. There was a fish tank with brown, yellow, black and white fish. The fish was so big it was hiding under the coral. Then we went to the playground and Mia and I could see the beach from there. I also flew my aeroplane too. I saw some movies. I watched Utopia with Mummy and I watched Kung Fu Panda 3 with my aunty. The Easter bunny didn t leave the eggs in a line this time they were all over the house. I went to Werribee zoo and I saw a cheetah and hippopotamus. There were two on the logs the boy was making noise and the others rushed off.
2 Sean Taj Gigi Isobel Kyler I went in the aeroplane. My ears hurt and I ate a lollypop and it helped my ear. I went to the museum and saw dinosaur bones. I also went to the aquarium. I went to the science museum and you are allowed to touch stuff. We had to run and there were pictures of it. I saw 2 science shows. I went to Scienceworks and we saw a show about a dog; a dog in space. I saw stars on the roof and we lay back. It was a little bit scary. I went to the football stadium. I saw the Hawks and the Cats. I went with my friends. Thomas I went to the Aquarium and I saw a groper eat a shark. Felix Ruby Olivia I went to St Kilda. I practiced football there with my brother Lucien. We went to a theatre and saw Lego. I saw a train going around and around and it stopped so fast. I saw some builders making a fair. Not the community day fair. They were all working together. I played with my friends in the holidays at Playhouse; Bella and. I went camping at Easter and slept in a tent; it was huge and I slept on a balloon bed. Angus I went to the beach 2 times and I swam! Chloe I went to Matilda. It was different to the TV with a different Miss Honey. Matilda told a scary story about a scary beast. But it was fun; it really was nice. It was a play with singing and dancing. Outcome 5: Children are effective communicators.
3 Thursday, 14 April 2016 Dream Puppets This term Julia and Richard from Dream Puppets will be our artist in residence. They will be working with all the children across the ELC to develop the children s puppetry skills and create an evolving project. As an introduction to their knowledge and expertise of puppetry they performed a small performance and introduced the children to the different styles of puppets. LEARNING Outcome 4: The children looked at the way the objects were manipulated to see the result cause and effect had on the movement of the puppets. They learnt about how different materials can be used to express ideas and make meaning.
4 Week 1: Monday, 11 April 2016 Music This week we welcomed Ms. George our music teacher for the term. During our session we looked at the beat as we clapped out the sound of our names. Later we moved around the music room as we explored tempo by beating on the drum. Children express themselves by responding through movement to the different sounds.
5 What do you think this is? Kyler: Soap. How does it feel? Angus: It smells like soap. Soft. Can you break it? Milan: Felix: Olivia: Felix: Clara: Henry: Angus: Its too hard to break. When its wet it starts to melt. Then it breaks. Soap Experiment If you melt it. You can put it in bowls to melt. You need hot water. Cold water will make it stronger. It will make it slippery. Some soaps get warm from water. Some soaps come in different shapes. I have soap at my farm. It gets slippery and then it slips out of my hand. Week 1: 15 April 2016 We put the soap in the microwave to see what would happen? We were very surprised to see that it had not melted but expanded. How does it feel? Isobel: Sean: If feels like squishy stuff. Maybe its ice cream? We then put some ice cream in the microwave to see what would happen? Alex: Aiden: Its done really quickly. Its melted. The bowl is cold. If we put the soap in the freezer what will happen? Isobel: It will change back to soap. It will turn back to ice. LEARNING Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners Children develop a range of skills and processes such as problem solving, inquiry, experimentation, hypothesising, researching and investigating.
Sophie: At Bright I went to see the kangaroos with my family, like my Daddy and my sisters and my Mummy.
During the holidays Henry: We went to the football and we saw the Tigers and the Giants and the Tigers won. We went to Crown and we went to Granny and Pa s new house; there s stairs and it goes up to a
