3 Global Health Security Agenda We must come together to prevent, and detect and fight every kind of biological danger whether it s a pandemic like H1N1, a terrorist threat, or a treatable disease. President Barack Obama, 2011

4 Global Health Security Agenda is focused on accelerating progress toward full implementation of International Health Regulations

5 IHR (2005) a process for international collaboration and decision-making during public health emergencies reporting of specific diseases plus any potential international public health emergencies regardless of origin or source a global network of 24x7 National Focal Points (NFP) core capacities for surveillance and response for all countries at all levels (local, intermediate, national)

6 Less than 20% of the world is prepared to respond All 194 countries of the world committed to International Health Regulations June 2012 deadline only 16% fully prepared to detect and respond to pandemics
