2 Organizing Committee Co-Chairs: Dr. Bernard Moulin, Laval University, Quebec Dr. Nick Ogden, PHAC, St-Hyacinthe Dr. Peter Buck, PHAC, Ottawa Other Committee members: Dr. Jianhong Wu, York University, Toronto Dr. Dongmei Chen, Queen s University, Kingston Dr. Huaiping Zhu, York University, Toronto Local Arrangements and contacts: Mirela Cojoaca, York University, Toronto Centre for Disease Modelling York Institute for Health Research 5021 TEL, York University Tel: (416) Ext (Voic ) mcojoaca@yorku.ca Workshop Goals This CODIGEOSIM Workshop on Geosimulation and Mathematical Modelling for Zoonotic Diseases is organized through the project CODIGEOSIM: Geosimulation tools for simulating spatial-temporal spread patterns and evaluating health outcomes of communicable diseases and jointly sponsored by the Geomatics for Informed Decisions (GEOIDE), Mathematics of Information Technology and Complex Systems (MITACS), and Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC). Zoonotic diseases such as the West Nile Virus and Lyme Disease involve different infectious agents and have various complicated transmission paths between wildlife and human. Given the ongoing risk of zoonotic diseases in Canada and worldwide, it is important to develop appropriate models and tools to assess and predict the spread and risk of these diseases. The multidisciplinary collaboration among experts on different aspects of these diseases is the key to the success of developing such models and tools. This workshop will involve a relatively small group of invited researchers, who are working on diverse disciplines related to zoonotic diseases, such as wildlife migration, veterinary science, biology, public health, mathematical and statistics modelling, geographic information science, computer science, etc. The object of this workshop will be: 1) to make a working plan for West Nile virus and Lyme diseases; and 2) to discuss and plan future bird-flu research agenda. The expected outcome will be the synthesis of current progress among diverse disciplines, and potential development of new collaborative groups between national and international researchers on zoonotic diseases. 2 / 14 Last update: August 13, 2009
