Development of highly sensitive and specific immunoassays for the detection and monitoring of AI The overall goals of this project are to develop immunoreagents for the development of diagnostic tests for the detection and control of avian influenza and the development of viral vector vaccines against avian influenza for their use in chickens. CSREES/NRI/USDA (Reddy SM, PI) (Z507226) Evaluation of E-beam pasteurization for inactivation of avian influenza virus in chicken meat and egg products. The overall objective of this project is to determine if E-beam pasteurization can be used for inactivation of avian influenza viruses in meat and egg products. USDA Formula Animal Health (1433). (Reddy SM, PI): AH-9248 In vivo characterization of avian influenza NS1 mutant viruses. The overall goal of this proposal is to identify the role of the NS1 protein in low pathogenic avian influenza viruses in chickens. CSREES/NRI/USDA (Reddy SM, PI, Lupiani B, Co-PI) Biochemical and biological characterization of the Meq protein from CVI988, a Marek s disease virus serotype 1 vaccine. The overall goal of this proposal is the biochemical and biological characterization of the Meq oncoprotein of vaccine and oncogenic strains of Marek s disease viruses to determine what makes vaccine viruses attenuated.
