The number of influenza A-positive specimens also decreased in 43. ILI Activity: Army incident ILI outpatient visits in week 43 were 29% lower than the same week last year. Influenza cases: No hospitalized influenza cases were reported to APHC through DRSi in week 43; At this same time during the last influenza season, one influenza-associated hospitalization was reported. Viral specimens: During week 43, 68 of 861 (8%) laboratory specimens tested positive for respiratory pathogens. RHC-A reported most (39%) of the influenza A-positive specimens. Geographic Spread United States In week 43, regional influenza activity was reported by Guam and four states. Puerto Rico and 12 states reported local influenza activity, and the District of Columbia and 31 states reported sporadic activity. No activity was reported by Rhode Island and the U.S.V.I. and two states did not report. CDC Virologic Surveillance During week 43, 91.6% (109) of specimens collected for civilian labs tested positive for Influenza A. A(H3) accounted for 88 of the 109 samples. 14 were A (H1N1)pdm09 and seven were not subtyped. ILI Activity United States Nationwide during week 43, 1.5% of outpatient visits reported in ILINet were due to ILI, which is below the national baseline of 2.2%. The percentage of ILI outpatient visits ranged from 0.7% to 2.3% across the regions reporting. ILI Activity Army During week 43, incident ILI activity was 29% lower than the same time last year and 24% lower than week 43 in AD SMs accounted for 28% of incident ILI clinic visits during week 43; in , AD SMs comprised 26% of ILI clinic visits on average. Laboratory Respiratory Specimen Testing In week 43, 8% (68) of specimens tested positive. RSV and influenza A accounted for 46% and 19% of positive specimens, respectively. Parainfluenza accounted for 16% of positive specimens. Influenza B accounted for 12%, and adenovirus for 7%. DRSi Influenza Case Reporting In week 43, no cases of influenzaassociated hospitalization were reported in DRSi. At the same time last influenza season, one influenza-associated hospitalization was reported. Two cases has been reported so far this season (in week 39). Laboratory Testing for Influenza A In week 43, 13 of 730 (1.8%) specimens tested positive for influenza A. This was a decrease from week 42 (4.2%). All (13) of the positive influenza A specimens were from non-active duty individuals. RHC-A reported 6 (46%) of the total influenza A-positive specimens. RHC-P reported 5 (38%) influenza A-positive specimens, RHC-C and RHC-E both reported 1 (8%), and CENTCOM did not report and positive influenza A specimens.
