1 1 Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences Pre-Approved Related Courses In addition to major specific courses, the Department requires that students complete twelve credits of 2000 level or above courses taken outside of the Department that are related to the major. These do not have to be from the same department. Ordinarily courses from Allied Health, Anthropology, Human Development and Family Studies, Linguistics, Psychology, Sociology, Education, and Biology are selected for related coursework. The following is a list of pre-approved related courses. They are broken down into fourteen categories based on areas of interest. The areas of interest are: Biological Development, Cognitive Studies, Health, Psychological Development, Counseling, Research, Language, Deaf Studies, Communication, Musical Studies, Physics, Cultural Studies, Gender and Sexuality and Aging. Some courses fall into multiple areas because of their content. Any course that falls into multiple categories will only be counted as one related course. In addition, taking courses from an area of interest does not constitute expert knowledge in that area and will not be signified on the transcript in the way of a concentration. For a full list of all pre-approved relateds organized by department, please see page 14 of this document. Other courses may be used to satisfy this requirement with the permission of your advisor. Prerequisites have been indicated; however, these are subject to change and students are responsible for checking with the department offering the course for details.
