1 UNIVERSITY OF PUGET SOUND SCHOOL OF OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY ADVISING MANUAL PREREQUISITES FOR ADMISSION TO THE ENTRY-LEVEL GRADUATE PROGRAM IN OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY Students must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and may prepare for Occupational Therapy while pursuing any major course of study. Some majors may be designed as pre-occupational Therapy, but students are cautioned to not assume that programs designed as such will necessarily benefit their application. 1. Anatomy and Physiology, preferably with labs: EXSC 221 & 222 or equivalent. 2. Human Development/Human Behavioral Science: a total of three courses, distributed as follows: A. Human Development through the life span: PSYC 220 & 221 or equivalent. Note: It is possible to complete the Human Development prerequisite within a single course covering the entire life span. In this case, students must complete 2 courses in category (B) listed below: B. Human Behavioral Science: course(s) in Anthropology, Psychology, or Sociology at the 200-level or above (except where noted) addressing at least one of the following content areas: i. Normal and abnormal behavior of individuals and/or groups; ii. The analysis of behavior of individuals and/or groups and their interactions; iii. Culture and mental health. 3. Elements of Applied Statistics: MATH 160, or PSYC 201 & 301, or equivalent. 4. Optional: Medical : Students who do not complete a course in Medical will be required to pass a series of terminology exams during their first semester in the MSOT program. COMMON COURSE NUMBERING Occupational Therapy Prerequisites (choose 1 BIOL& 231 & 232 (both) - Human Anatomy & Physiology & Physiology 1 & 2 BIOL& (all) - Human Anatomy, & III ANTH& Cross-Cultural Medicine No commonly-numbered courses currently fulfill this requirement see the individual institution listings for options. Prerequisite courses should be completed within 10 years of entry into the program. If a longer time has elapsed, the applicant must submit a letter explaining how the knowledge has been kept current. All prerequisite courses must be taken for a letter grade, and students must earn at least a "C" (2.0) in each course. A minimum 3.00 cumulative undergraduate grade point average or a grade point average above 3.25 for the last 2 years of academic work is also required for admission Advising Manual Occupational Therapy Prerequisites 1
