3 PERKINS Perkins School for the Blind (2004) Author: Kimberly French This extensively illustrated book tells the story of Perkins from its founding to the present. Photographs and engaging prose address Laura Bridgman, Anne Sullivan, Helen Keller and Perkins legacy of establishing education programs that annually bring hope and dignity to more than 40,000 people who are blind or deafblind worldwide. Price: $20.00 Perkins Panda Early Literacy Program Developed by Perkins staff, other professionals and parents, Perkins Panda helps teach children pre-literacy skills and helps caregivers be more involved in children s development. The complete kit includes three packets, each with an interrelated storybook, activity guide and cassette. Also: a resource guide, a story box and a Gund stuffed panda with a backpack that can hold a tape player. The storybooks have uncontracted (beginning stage) braille, large print and high-contrast illustrations. The first book is a tactile board book. Components are also available separately. Price: $94.95 Remarkable Conversations: A Guide to Developing Meaningful Communication with Children and Young Adults Who Are Deafblind (1999) Editors: Barbara Miles and Marianne Riggio This book is a practical guide for teachers, family members and others who play a critical, direct role in the lives of children who are deafblind. The beginning chapters lay the foundation for the development of instructional programs for children who are congenitally deafblind or who have become deafblind early in life. Later chapters look more specifically and sequentially at the nuts and bolts of providing meaningful experiences for these learners. The final chapters address some of the underlying issues fundamental to providing personalized educational services for infants, children and young adults who are deafblind.
