Office hours: TBA or by appointment Course materials posted on D2L Course Objectives: is core course will provide an overview of the anatomy and physiology of the auditory and vestibular systems. e major emphasis will be on the auditory system. In depth anatomy and physiology of the vestibular system will be covered in SLHS 588B, Assessment and Rehabilitation of the Balance System. While basic material will be emphasized, current research on special topics will also be discussed. e core concepts in this class will also serve to support the material in SLHS 589R. e two courses will be combined during portions of the semester to reduce redundancy of the material. Please see the Matrix on Learner Objectives at the end of this document. Course Structure: All notes and ancillary materials will be posted on D2L. Material will be discussed in class in the form of structured lectures and discussions. Participation during guided discussion of articles on special topics is expected. Course Schedule is combined with SLHS_589R schedule. Grading: Your grade will be determined on the basis of examinations. Most examinations will include a mixture of short answer, multiple choice and labeling questions. Some exams may have a take-home essay portion. Dates for examinations are provided on the course calendar, but it is recognized that you may have a heavy exam schedule coming at certain times in the semester. Changing exam dates will be done if it benefits the entire class and will be decided as a group. If for any reason you are unable to be in class on an exam date, it is your responsibility to notify the instructors so that arrangements can be made. Additional graded learning experiences may be provided throughout the semester if deemed necessary. ese will be included in the examination weighting of your total grade.
