FONIX FP35 Ease and Accuracy with the FP35 Touch Hearing Aid Analyzer! Move your hearing aid fittings into the world of the touch screen! The new FP35 Touch adds a new interactive dimension to hearing instrument verification. Touch the screen to navigate to the desired test screen or to make changes to important settings. Swipe the screen and move to the next one or call up local menus real control at your fingertips! Real Ear Measures Real-ear measurements ensure that your hearing aid fittings are solid and based upon actual data not just predictions. Patients will really appreciate you going the extra mile for them to provide great customer service. And if the patient comes back, complaining that the hearing aid is no longer working like before, real-ear measurements can save you valuable time in troubleshooting the problem. Visible Speech Real-ear measurements can be performed conventionally using the newly improved Digital Speech signal or you can use Visible Speech with live or pre-recorded actual speech signals. Switch between using the built-in signals and the Visible Speech signals with a simple touch to the screen. Want to see the exact sound level values at the ear? Switch between the graphical and numerical displays with another simple touch of the stylus. Fitting Formulas The fitting formulas available on the FP35 Touch include DSL i/o, NAL-NL1, MOD NAL (for mild/ moderate gain open fit aids), and the usual linear fittings rules. Two simple swipes from any of the realear measurement screens will bring up the target menu and allow you to adjust the formula settings. Return to the measurement screen with a closing swipe.
RECD To create coupler targets customized to the patient s ear response, measure the real-ear to coupler difference (RECD). This allows you to simulate realear measurements while providing the convenience of sound chamber measurements. This technique was developed primarily for fitting hearing aids on children, but it can also be a time-saver in pre-fitting hearing aids for adult patients before they come into the office for their fitting. It is even more convenient and accurate if you use the FP35 Touch Audiometer Option to measure the patient s threshold levels. Standards Testing The FP35 Touch comes with your choice of automated test sequence: ANSI (American), IEC (European/ International), or JIS (Japanese). If more than one test sequence is desired, just specify it with your order for a small additional cost. A larger external sound chamber is also available as an option. Frequency Shifting Hearing Aids Some advanced hearing aids have the capability of transposing amplification in high frequencies (that may be inaudible to your patient) to lower frequencies where your patient can hear them. The FP35 can test these hearing aids with the special DIG FS test signal. The input frequency is shown as a vertical line on the test screen while the hearing aid response is displayed normally. This allows you to easily see the spectral shift of the hearing aid. NOAH 3 and 4 Compatible The FONIX NOAH Real-ear Module can be used to control your FP35 Touch from a connected computer. The NOAH REM module automatically grabs your patient s latest NOAH audiogram and uses it to generate NAL-NL1, DSL mi/o, or MOD NAL targets. Each measurement performed with the REM module can have its own target, which makes your hearing aid fittings even easier and more convenient. If you prefer to perform your test results from the front panel interface of the FP35 Touch, you can use the NOAH REM module to grab existing test results from the FP35 Touch and store them into your computer. The FONIX Troubleshooter program, also a NOAH Module, is used to measure and store coupler test results including ANSI, Profiler, and coupler multicurve. See the FONIX NOAH REM and FONIX Troubleshooter brochures for more information. Fast Printing The FP35 Touch has recently been upgraded with a faster thermal printer that copies the screen to paper in just a few seconds. You can also print test results to a standard printer using one of the FONIX computer programs, if desired. External monitor Option Connect the FP35 Touch to an external monitor with this option. The External Monitor Option is particularly useful in allowing your patient to view the ongoing measurements on a large display. Your patient can observe what is going on while you are performing target adjustments. This graph is the real thing, not just a computer prediction! Optional Soft Carrying Case An optional soft carrying case is available for the FP35 Touch for easy portability. 3 The Unique FP35 Experience Frye Electronics new FP35 Touch! It brings the world of interactive touch panels to hearing aid analysis a whole new, more intuitive operator interface. Press the screen to get a complete roadmap; Touch the desired destination to navigate there. Touch Source SPL to set a new level. Touch left (ear) to change the ear. Swipe down to show a menu. Touch to choose a menu item. Swipe up to close the menu. Plus many more options... See the on-line operator s manual to get a complete listing of Touch commands. Interactive FP35 touch panel processing is similar to the popular Android and Apple products. The user thus experiences a whole new instrument interface, making the FP35 analyzer unique in the hearing industry.
FP35 Touch Options The FONIX FP35 Touch Portable Hearing Aid Analyzer has many available options and accessories. Here s a description of the most popular ones. Real-Ear Measurements Real-ear measurements take the guesswork out of a hearing aid fitting. You find out the exact frequency response inside the patient s ear and how changes to the hearing aid fitting program effect the actual real-ear response. Three different measurement screens as well as the Audiogram Entry screen are included with the Real-ear Option. This allows you to view the real-ear response in terms of Insertion Gain, Gain, or SPL by flipping through the different screens. In the Real-ear SPL screen, the patient s threshold values and uncomfortable values are displayed together with the real-ear response and target, making these measurements directly comparable. The FP35 Touch Real-ear Option now includes an adjustable, integrated probe microphone that is both light-weight and easy to use. Open Fit Coupler The Open Fit coupler is designed to give you a realistic frequency response of an open fit hearing aid. The coupler is easy to use and doesn t require any putty or special attachments. The clinician puts the earpiece of the hearing aid into the coupler just as it would be inserted into the ear. The resulting frequency response is generally more like the real-ear response of the hearing aid than the response obtained from a standard 2-cc coupler. CIC When a CIC hearing aid is tested using a 2-cc HA-1 coupler, the frequency response, while conforming to ANSI specifications, is very misleading. These small hearing aids, placed deeply into the ear canal, provide a great deal more amplification in the patient s ear than is indicated by the 2-cc coupler response. The CIC coupler, combined with software correction factors, provide a more realistic picture of what the frequency response inside the patient s ear will be. Real-ear measurements are the most accurate way of determining the amplification the patient is actually receiving, but the CIC Option is the next best thing. External Monitor Connection The External Monitor option needs to be included if you want to connect the FP35 Touch to an external monitor for better viewing by the patient and others in the room. When enabled, the FP35 Touch display is shown on both the internal LCD and the connected monitor. Just about any standard computer monitor is compatible, including a modern flat screen. This option consists of an internal circuit board that is installed into the FP35 Touch analyzer. It does not include the external monitor itself. Other Options Carrying Case: Great for portability! External speaker on a swing arm or stand: Adds convenience to real-ear measurements Screening audiometer: Pure tone air threshold testing using an insert earphone OES: An approximation of the Zwislocki high-end coupler Telecoil: Available with the ANSI S3.22 Telewand or an external Telecoil board Spanish language: Software and operator s manual are available! French language: Software and quick reference guide are available! Battery Pills: For testing battery current drain. Requires new main electronics board. External sound chamber. Requires the M311 coupler microphone. PN. B-35opt (8/8/12)
FP35 TOUCH Audiometer O p t i o n An audiometer option is available with the FP35 Touch that allows threshold tests from 250 Hz to 8000 Hz, with amplitudes from 10 to 110 db HL in the mid-frequency range with insert earphones. The use of a sound field speaker is also available. (Masking is not available.) The audiometer option is available with either one or two ER3A insert earphones. The ER3A comes with three sizes of foam eartips. Combined with the real ear hearing aid analysis capability of the FP35 Touch, the audiometer option allows nearly automatic collection of Real Ear to Coupler Difference (RECD) and Real Ear to Dial Difference (REDD) information. This data can be very useful when fitting hearing aids on infants and other hard-of-hearing persons. One real ear test establishes the RECD/REDD, and then the aid adjustment and verification can be carried out in the 2CC coupler mode, enhancing patient comfort. 08/08/2012
New & Improved Digital Speech Signal For testing hearing aids with feedback and noise suppression Evolution of a Test Signal In the days before complicated digital circuitry, hearing aids could be tested very reliably using continuous broadband and pure-tone signals. When digital hearing aids came onto the market, they started using algorithms designed to detect whether the input to the hearing aid was modulated and thus should be amplified as a speech signal, or whether the signal was continuous and thus should be suppressed as a noise signal. In order to accurately test these hearing aids, the modulated Digital Speech signal was developed and used successfully for many years. New & improved Digital Speech Old style Digital Speech noise reduction uses a type of signal averaging designed to help reduce temporary room noise in order to create a smooth, stable display. The traditional Frye noise reduction algorithms have assumed a fixed relationship between the hearing aid input and the hearing aid output. Unfortunately, the slight randomizations used by the feedback suppression algorithms of Open Fit hearing aids interfere with the noise reduction averaging. Resulting measurement curves can sometimes appear unstable or may even show negative gain in the higher frequencies. Feedback Suppression Open Fit hearing aids have become extremely popular in the past few years as comfortable, moderate gain hearing aids. In order to boost their maximum possible amplification, sophisticated feedback suppression algorithms have been created. These algorithms modify the relationship between the input signal and the output signal, creating slight randomizations that disrupt the oscillation that normally results in feedback. Noise Reduction by Signal Averaging Frye Electronics has always used noise reduction when performing hearing aid measurements. This Updated Digital Speech Digital speech now includes improvements for testing both noise suppression and feedback suppression. Digital Speech remains a broadband signal that uses modulation in order to test hearing aids with noise suppression algorithms, but new averaging methods have been added so that it can also be used to accurately and reliably test Open Fit hearing aids with feedback suppression. The new averaging methods are much more flexible and robust and can be used for even the most advanced Open Fit hearing aids. These improvements are fully backwards compatible; older style hearing aids without feedback or noise suppression can still be accurately tested with this updated Digital Speech signal. The New and Improved Digital Speech signal is available on all current Frye analyzers for both Real-ear Measurements and Coupler Measurements.
Visible Speech with the FONIX FP35 Touch Analyzer The FP35 Touch Visible Speech feature is available with the FP35 Touch Real-ear Option. It allows you to perform real-ear measurements using live voice or an external signal source. During Visible speech testing, the FP35 Touch hearing aid analyzer will show you both the real-time frequency response and the peaked-pulse average response on a Real-ear SPL graph with the patient s threshold and uncomfortable values. All together, these elements give you a complete picture of the patient s real-ear response to the input stimulus. In the FP35 Touch Real-Ear SPL screen, you can see: UCLs Long term average response Real-ear target Threshold Values Real-time, real-ear response Testing with live voice can be a great tool for use with your hearing instrument fittings. See how the hearing instrument responds to the actual speech of your client, your client s spouse or family member. Or attach an external CD player or an ipod to your FP35 Touch analyzer to change the input stimulus to use a pre-recorded signal. REF: DOCUMENTS/BROCHURES/FP35/VisiblespeechFP35 8/8/12 B-35vis
