3 Key Principles: 1. Deaf children and young people have the same rights and requirements to education as their hearing peers but have distinctive needs. 2. All deaf and hearing impaired young people have access to an education which meets their individual needs and will promote their being independent children and young people, and self determining members of society. 3. An equitable, cohesive, nationally coordinated service for all deaf and hearing impaired young people is provided in a timely manner from birth to the completion of their school years. and 15 more Principles

Deployment shift of responsibility for Year 4 plus students at school non ORS to the Deaf Education Centres DECs continue to take a leadership role in the provision of specialist teaching services to students ORS verified due to hearing loss.

DECs responsible for all new referrals for Students Year 4 to Year 13. Note All referrals sent to MoE -no change. By signing this form, you are giving permission for the referral information to be shared with both the Ministry of Education; Kelston Deaf Education Centre and van Asch Deaf Education Centre.
