2 ORAL HEALTH FLORIDA History FL Department of Health (FDOH), Public Health Dental Program organized the State Oral Health Improvement Plan Group (2004) Assembled a diverse group of stakeholders (2004 current) Developed first State Oral Health Improvement Plan ( ) Workgroups established and began implementation ( ) Name changed to Oral Health Florida (2008) Backbone organization changed from FDOH to Florida Public Health Institute(FPHI) (2011) Updated State Oral Health Improvement Plan ( ) Developed Florida s Roadmap for Oral Health ( ) FPHI withdrew as backbone organization (2014) Florida Public Health Association became fiscal agent (2014) Action Teams implementing Roadmap (2014-current) Oral Health Florida Conferences (2009, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015)

5 FLORIDA S ROADMAP FOR ORAL HEALTH Result: All people in Florida have optimal oral health and well-being Focus Area #1: Improved access and utilization of quality oral health care Indicator 1.1: Percentage of Medicaid/SCHIP-eligible children receiving any dental services Indicator 2.1: Total emergency room costs and number of visits due to preventable oral health conditions Indicator 3.1a: Percentage of Florida schools with school-based sealant programs Indicator 3.1b: Total eligible children receiving a sealant on permanent molar tooth Focus Area # 2: Increased access to community water fluoridation Indicator 2.1: Percentage of population on community water systems receiving fluoridated water RESULTS SCORECARD

7 ACTION TEAMS Communication OHF Focus Area #1 and #2 Utilizes social media platforms to disseminate relevant messages and information to increase awareness among the public and stakeholders on oral health issues in the State of Florida and in the U.S. Posting to include news, events, initiatives, articles, etc.(hrsa Workforce Grant thru 8/1/17) Data OHF Focus Area #1 and #2 Reviews and updates data on all indicators associated with the two focus areas Assisting Florida Department of Health (FDOH) with development of the FDOH Burden of Oral Disease. Fluoridation OHF Focus Area #2 Provides community water fluoridation training sessions, technical assistance to communities, and water operator education throughout Florida (FDOH WF Training Grant thru 6/30/15; HRSA Workforce Grant thru 8/1/17)

8 ACTION TEAMS Medical-Dental Focus Area #1; Indicators 1.1 and 2.1 Members provide presentations on integration of oral health and primary care Action needed: Collect data on emergency room diversion oral health projects/programs Sealants Focus Area #1: Indicators 3.1a and 3.1b Collects data on school-based sealants programs operating in Florida. Reviews/discusses best practice protocols; developing Florida Sealant fact sheet, provides SEALS training, Senior Oral Health Focus Area #1 Maintains the Florida Page of the Oral Health America Wisdom Tooth Project Reviews the Medical Managed Assistance plans with expanded benefits for adult dental services (action steps needed) Meets every other month to share national and state initiatives for older adults
