1 Important Announcement Regarding Delta Dental of Minnesota Individual and Family Plan Members Delta Dental of Minnesota is pleased to announce that effective October 1, 2016, we will implement system enhancements. The system enhancements involve changing the administration of our Individual and Family plans to a new partner that offers technological improvements and long-term efficiencies for this line of dental benefits. 1

2 Effective after October 1, your patients who purchased an Individual or Family dental insurance plan directly from Delta Dental of Minnesota will have a unique website for eligibility look-up and a new address for paper claims. Electronic claims will continue under our current process. This change involves a very small percentage of Delta Dental of Minnesota s members. Delta Dental of Minnesota s employer-sponsored (group) and government programs (Medicare and Medicaid) business remains unchanged. Please review our provider brochure for more information. Please contact our Provider Relations Advocates at ext Important Information Regarding Medica We are excited to announce a new partnership between Medica and Delta Dental of Minnesota. Beginning November 1, 2016, Medica will no longer offer a Medica commercial dental product to employer groups for purchase. Starting November 1, you will notice that patients previously insured by a Medica Commercial plan will begin transitioning to a Delta Dental of Minnesota plan. As a reminder, employer groups are responsible for selecting the dental insurance carrier for their employees. The Medica dental termination dates will vary by employer group renewal dates, which means this will be a lengthy transition. The transition period will begin on November 1, 2016 and will complete end of year It is important to keep in mind that this change only affects Medica s commercial line of 2

3 business. Medica s public program plans will not be affected. As you know, it is always important to verify insurance coverage for each patient, and will be especially critical to do so during this transitional period. The patients will be issued a new ID card with information on where to submit claims and a new Customer Service phone number. Please note: The patient s annual deductible and benefit Max will carry over to the new plan. If you have questions, please contact us at Ext Option 3. Smiles@School 1 st Grader Education Program is Up and Running! This year, Delta Dental of Minnesota Foundation expanded its Smiles@School sealant program and introduced a statewide education campaign to reach all first graders, along with their teachers and caregivers, with essential tools and information about the importance of good oral health and its connection to learning. Backpacks filled with oral health supplies were shipped directly to schools the week of September 12 th. First grade students received a backpack filled with oral health supplies a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, an hourglass tooth timer (used for brushing for 2 minutes), a 3

4 water bottle and an oral health activity book. First grade teachers received a tote bag, simple oral health lesson plans and information about where to download other Smiles@School resources. In August, we called on our provider community to partner with us to bring Smiles@School into every first grade classroom. We asked dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants and other oral health professionals throughout Minnesota to volunteer their time to teach an oral health lesson in a first grade classroom near them, using the Smiles@School online and print resources. So far, the response has been excellent. The inaugural 1 st grader campaign has reached 54,500 children in nearly 700 schools, which is nearly all of Minnesota s first-graders. All Smiles@School oral health activities and curriculum are available online at the Smiles@School website. Thank you for helping us make a difference in the lives and oral health of Minnesota s youth! Minnesota Mission of Mercy at Concordia College For the 5th consecutive year, Delta Dental of Minnesota Foundation proudly partnered with the Minnesota Dental Foundation to provide oral health care to Minnesotans with immediate and urgent dental needs at this year's Minnesota Mission of Mercy on July at Concordia College. Many Delta Dental of Minnesota staff members donated their time to this very worthy and life changing event. According to the Minnesota Dental Foundation, this two-day event provided oral health care for 1,391 patients, resulting in over 7,655 total dental procedures including 1,003 fillings, 1,394 extractions, 1,418 x-rays, 292 cleanings, 81 partial dentures, and 59 root canals! The care received as a result of this year s event is valued at over $1 million. 4
