5 Motivation Letter I started frequenting FDI congresses already as a student, at first not actively participating but intent on gaining knowledge. Regular and annual participation in the congresses has provided me with the opportunity to meet and come to know a great many colleagues from all over the world. My work has allowed me to acquire knowledge of the world of dentistry and to gradually get not only a good grasp of the skills, but also an insight into the profession's organisational and political aspects that are key to its development. I got involved in the work of national associations and was soon delegated as Croatia's representative to the FDI General Assembly. I have met a large number of delegates I started frequenting FDI congresses already as a student, at first not actively participating but intent on gaining knowledge. My work has allowed me to acquire knowledge of the world of dentistry and to gradually get not only a good grasp of the skills, but also an insight into the profession's organisational and political aspects that are key to its development. I have met a large number of delegates from various countries and since 2005 have been actively involved in the work of the Women Dentists Worldwide section. Initially as a Board member, then as the vice president and now as the Section's president, I am continually in contact with dentists from all over the world, we talk, exchange ideas and share knowledge. I am a member of the FDI European Regional Organisation, within the framework of which I was the leader, from 2005 to 2013, of the working group on women in dentistry. I was also a member of the working groups on liberal dental practice and education and at the moment am a member of the working group on prevention. My wish is to transform the knowledge gained through contacts with colleagues into initiatives and prevent dissipation of FDI members' ideas because I firmly believe that only by respecting each FDI member may our FDI be an organisation to which all of us will be pleased to belong. As I am a native of a small European country, I know what it means to have good ideas but lack a strong group behind you that provides you with the support to implement them. This is the reason why I have decided to run for the Council, a position that would allow me to transform all the ideas, knowledge and experience into initiatives and to influence the majority of decisions taken by our Organisation. 7 VESNA BARAC FURTINGER Candidate for election to FDI Council Dear colleagues, we are pleased to nominate dr. Vesna Barac Furtinger, Secretary of the Croatian Dental Society, for membership of the FDI Council as we firmly believe that she meets all the necessary criteria. Vesna Barac Furtinger graduated from the Zagreb University, Dental Faculty, in Three years later she embarked on her postgradute studies by specializing at the Preventive and Pedodontics Department of the Zagreb University. Since 1993, after she received her MsD in preventive dentistry, she has been practicing at the community health center where she has her private dental practice. She is on the Board of Croatian Dental Society. For eleven years ( ) she was editor in chief of the Croatian Dental Journal (Croatian Dental Chamber). She is also an active member of both CSPD and IAPD. She has published several presentations held at national and international congresses. She is the contact person for Live Learn Laugh Global Project in Croatia. She is also a member of the core team of the Oral Health Promotion in Croatia project. Internationally, she was the chairwoman of ERO/FDI WG Women in Dentistry, she is a member of Prevention and Liberal Dental Practice groups within the framework of ERO/FDI. She was Croatia's delegate to FDI's GA, served as the NLO Croatia, and since 2005 she has been on the Board of the Women Dentists Worldwide section. Recently she became President of the Women Dentists Worldwide section. In view of all of the above achievements, we believe that dr. Vesna Barac Furtinger is the right person that will certainly make a valuable contribution to the FDI Council's activities.
