3 36% of employees report that they are stressed out during the workday. 37% were managing stress 41% of employers offering stress management programs July 18,

4 Stress Percent of physician office visits centered around stress-related ailments. 75% Percent of employees reporting that their job was very or extremely stressful. 20% Percent who believe that stress has increased over the past 10 years. 75%

5 Definitions of Stress Stress is a condition or feeling experienced when a person perceives that demands exceed the personal and social resources the individual is able to mobilize. Job stress can be defined as the harmful physical and emotional responses that occur when the requirements of the job do not match the capabilities, resources or needs of the worker. Perceived threat, real or imagined to our mind, body, spirit or emotions.

7 The Nature of Stress Two kinds of Distress: Acute Distress: Very intense, but short lived Chronic Distress: Not very intense but it endures for days, weeks, months.
