2 9th INTERNATIONAL AIM OF THE MEETING The aim of this workshop is to provide theoretical education and practical training to scientists, physicians, surgeons and technicians who are new or junior to the field of islet isolation, transplantation and metabolic/immunological follow-up of transplanted patients. Baseline knowledge and practical training regarding islet isolation and transplantation in murine models will be provided during a 3 day focused programme. This workshop will provide theoretical education and practical training about stem cell culture and differentiation into insulin-producing cells and innovative approaches in tissue engineering.

3 DESCRIPTION OF THE FORMAT This workshop is organized in 2 parts: The first part is dedicated to theory and lectures (1 day and a half) All speakers are experts in the field and coming from European centers active in clinical paancreatic islet isolation and transplantation, stem cells differentiation and tissue engineering. The second part is structured to perform Hands-on and practical activities (2 half-day) Participants will be organized in small groups and will perform all procedures under the supervision of qualified personnel from the host institution. PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES INCLUDE: w Islet isolation from pig pancreas and dynamic islet perifusion w Immunological follow-up of transplanted patients w Murine islet isolation and transplantation activity w Pluripotent stem cells culture and differentiation w Organ decellularization and repopulation Participants are encouraged to stay for the whole duration of the workshop. TARGET AUDIENCE Scientists, physicians, surgeons and technicians who are new or junior to the field of islet isolation and transplantation; scientists interested in updates on the latest innovative strategies in the field of beta cell. The main topics that will be addressed in this workshop are: MAIN TOPICS w Human islet isolation, culture, perifusion and transplantation w Immunological and metabolic follow-up of transplanted patients w Murine islet isolation and transplantation in mouse models w Generation of stem cell-derived beta cells w Innovative strategies in tissue engineering
