1 COMMUNITY REPORT Goal Achievement A personal trainer helps you define your fitness goals. They take into account your current fitness level and discuss what you want to achieve through your workouts. While you may have some idea of the goals you want to set, a professional is able to help you break them down into smaller goals that are specific and realistic. Personalized Workouts Personal trainers create specific workout plans just for you based on what you want to achieve. 4 COMMUNITY REPORT WJMC EMS Receives Regional Recognition Here s just one example of why we re honored to receive this award: WJMC EMS responded to a call at a place of business. When our ambulance arrived, paramedics found an off duty law enforcement officer performing CPR on an adult who had a cardiac arrest at the location. WJMC EMS took over and shocked the person four times, regained a pulse and identified that the individual was having an anterior STEMI. A STEMI (ST segment elevation myocardial infarction) is a deadly type of heart attack that is caused by a prolonged blockage of blood supply in the heart. Every year, nearly 250,000 people experience STEMI heart attacks, according to the American Heart Association (AHA). These types of heart attacks carry a substantial risk of death and disability and require a quick response from all members of the medical team, from first responders in the community to cardiologists in the hospital. The person was transported to West Jefferson Medical Center for care. The Door-to-Balloon time was just 45 minutes. Door-to-Balloon-time is the amount of time between a heart attack patient s arrival at the hospital, to the time he or she receives percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), such as angioplasty. The AHA recommends the time be less than 90-minutes. Soon after, the individual was resting well and recovering in WJMC s coronary care unit (CCU). West Jefferson cardiologists found the person s heart attack was due to a blocked coronary artery. CPR, early entry into the EMS system and a prompt Door- to-balloon time saves lives. 6 COMMUNITY REPORT Sinuses: What You Need to Know ENT issues? We re all ears Medical Center Blvd. Suite N-707 Marrero Infected sinuses, also known as sinusitis, can cause facial and headache pain. When pus is trapped in sinus cavities the area above and below the eyes and around the nose your entire head can ache. Symptoms of sinusitis may include nasal congestion, a sore throat or fever. The cause could be attributed to a virus, bacteria, fungus or allergies. The best way to treat infected sinuses is by removing the degree of infection and sometimes opening them up. Using saltwater solutions and irrigating the nose helps; talk to your ENT physician about appropriate techniques. Viral infections generally go away on their own, and bacterial infections are treated with antibiotics. Single sided problems, if persistent, generally warrant a medical evaluation. Call your doctor if your sinusitis does not improve after 2 days of home treatment and you have symptoms such as: Pain in the face or upper teeth. Headache that is not relieved by an over-the-counter pain medicine, such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen. Fever of 101 F (38.3 C) or higher. Nasal discharge that starts out clear and later becomes thick and discolored (yellow or green). Cold symptoms that last longer than 10 days or get worse after the first 7 days.
