3 BASEBALL SKILL DEVELOPMENT BLOCK DATES LENGTH OBJECTIVES VOLUME/INTENSITY Team Strategies & Conditioning October 15 November 18 5 weeks Focus on team strategies and drills. (2 days/wk - Conditioning program included) High volume, low intensity Fundamentals and Group Work by Position & Conditioning (NO THROWING) November 19 December 16 4 weeks Focus on individual player development by position including hitting drills and batting practice NO THROWING. (3 days/wk - Conditioning program included) Moderate-high volume, moderate intensity Optional Maintenance *Transition December 17 January 6 3 weeks General conditioning. (Conditioning program provided) Moderate volume, low intensity Arm Strength Program, Fundamentals and Group Work by Position & Conditioning January 7 January 27 3 weeks Focus on arm strength and care as well as continued individual player development by position including hitting drills and batting practice. (3 days/wk - Conditioning program included) Moderate volume, moderate-high intensity Arm Strength Program, Tryout Prep, Bullpens & Conditioning January 28 February 24 4 weeks Focus on tryout preparation with arm strength and care plus pitchers bullpens. (3 days/wk - Conditioning program included) Low volume, high intensity

Moderate volume, low intensity 3 weeks Focus on maximal strength and anaerobic conditioning for energy system development 2 days/wk weights, 2 days/wk sprinting Moderate volume, moderate-high intensity Explosive Strength & Power January 28 February 24 4 weeks 2 days/wk weights, up to 2 days/wk sprinting or change in direction drills (4 th week recovery 2 weights, 1 sprints) Low volume, low-high intensity depending on movement
5 STRENGTH & CONDITIONING STAFF AMY MOOLYK Strength and Conditioning Coordinator at NAIT where she oversees ten varsity strength and conditioning programs and community high performance programs. Amy holds a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and a Master of Science in Biomechanics. She is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and a NCCP Weightlifting Competition Introduction certified coach. RUBEN SAN MARTIN Physical Therapist and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Ruben utilizes his research and therapy experiences to better understand how to improve sport performance and human movement. He also coaches Olympic weightlifting and is in the process of obtaining his NCCP Competition Introduction certification. LIANE JEAN Assistant Strength and Conditioning coach at NAIT. She holds a Bachelor of Physical Education in Sports Performance and a Master of Science in Biomechanics. Liane is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. NAIT PERSONAL FITNESS TRAINER PROGRAM Practicum students from this program will be incorporated throughout the year for additional strength and conditioning coaching and experience to assist in athlete development.
6 LIFE SKILLS The sport of baseball provides naturally for many life lessons, both on and off the field. This High Performance Program will enhance that by way of incorporating various Life Skills topics throughout the program. This will provide our studentathletes with a more well-rounded and enlightening experience through presentations, small projects and mentorship from subject matter experts. Topics may include but are not limited to the following: Financial Literacy Resume Writing Public Speaking Community Engagement Athletic Health & Nutrition Baseball Theory Baseball Video Analysis
7 POST-SECONDARY PREP In coordination with NAIT Student Recruitment, High Performance Program coaches will facilitate opportunities for our student-athletes to participate in experiences for post-secondary preparation as well as to receive guidance related to post-secondary interests (academics and athletics). All student-athletes will be expected to complete the following: NAIT Program Previews: introductory and experiential opportunities featuring each School Goal-Setting: based on academic, athletic and personal interests Ook for a Day: shadow a current NAIT student for a glimpse of post-secondary life General Advising: information related to admissions requirements for post-secondary schools Optional College Placement Assistance: connections to baseball programs and assistance in navigating Canadian and US college baseball options and entrance requirements
