1 What is Rhythmic Gymnastics? Rhythmic Gymnastics (RG) is a sport in which individuals or teams of competitors (from 2 to 6 people) manipulate one or two apparatus: rope, hoop, ball, clubs, and ribbon. Rhythmic gymnastics is a sport that combines elements of ballet, gymnastics, dance, and apparatus manipulation. RHYTHMIC NCAP GYMNASTICS NCAP Level 1 Modules 2 & 3

2 BROAD COMPETENCY: A Level 1 NCAP course provides expertise to coach at school and club at basic level. This is the most important area for development of gymnastics. These courses aim to develop practical coaching knowledge and skills for the beginner coach. AIM OF LEVEL 1 NCAP COACHING COURSE: To enable coaches to coach beginner/ preparatory and competitive rhythmic gymnastics participants in a safe, progressive and positive sporting environment. The qualification will entitle the candidate to coach the gymnastics skills and activities within the competency list defined for a Rhythmic Gymnastics Level 1 Coach, providing the coach with the expertise to coach at school and club at basic level. This course aims to develop practical coaching knowledge and skills for the beginner coach. ACCREDITATION TITLE: SG NCAP Level 1 Rhythmic Gymnastics Coach PRE-REQUISITES: - General Gymnastics Level 1 Coaching Course or Waiver. - Valid First Aid See current Sport Singapore approved list of vendors. POST COURSE REQUIREMENTS: - Technical Assessment (Preparation) - Practical Assessment (Preparation) - Mentored Attachment 20 hours - Submission of Lesson Plans 1 mesocycle, 2-6 microcycles as necessary ASSESSMENT: - Technical Assessment (Technical Paper) 80% pass mark - Practical Assessment (Presentation & Demonstration with Gymnasts) 80% pass mark

3 TECHNICAL & PRACTICAL SG NCAP Modules and Units RHYTHMIC LEVEL 1 SYLLABUS UNIT 1: PHYSICALCONDITIONING A.STRENGTH (back, abdominal, knee and ankle) B. FLEXIBILITY (shoulder, chest, waist and Pelvis) Learning Outcome module the candidates will be able to: (1) Teach basic body strength and flexibility (2) Apply knowledge of strength and flexibility to the teaching of the difficulties specified in the Singapore Rhythmic National Programme. Content (1) Practical techniques used to develop strength and flexibility (2) How strength and flexibility can be used in the development of Jumps, Balances, Pivots and Balances Technical theory: (1) The theory related to the correct techniques used to develop technique and flexibility ) UNIT 2: RHYTHMIC ELEMENTS OF JUMPS, FLEXIBILITIES, PIVOTS AND BALANCES modules the candidates will be able to: (1) Teach Rhythmic elements by utilizing supportive movements, progressions and drills (2) Teach skill progressions and drills for specific Rhythmic elements (3) Identify and correct errors in technique (1) The supportive movements, progressions and drills for specified elements (2) Key coaching points of the supportive movements to the specified elements (3) Application of skill progressions and drills for specified rhythmic elements (4) Demonstrating how to use the correct skill progressions and drills to teach the specified rhythmic elements Technical theory: (1) Justifications of the supportive movements progressions and drills for specified elements

4 (2) Key coaching points of the supportive movements to the specified elements. (3) Usage of correct skill progressions and drills to teach the specified rhythmic elements UNIT3: RHYTHMIC APPARATUS module the candidates will be able to: (1) list the apparatus fundamentals handling relevant to each Rhythmic apparatus ( rope, hoop, ball, clubs and ribbon) (1) Describe how the various apparatus mastery elements may be performed with the specified body difficulties (2) Demonstrate how to use the correct progressions and drills to teach specified elements and mastery. Choose any one: (a) Rope: small jump over rope, figure eights (b) Hoop: rotation and large circumduction (c) Ball: rolls over stretched arms, throw and catch (d) Clubs: small circles and small throw (e) Ribbon: spirals and snakes UNIT 4: DANCE (1) teach basic components of good posture (1) Describe the errors in technique for posture (2) Describe the basic dance steps that would be appropriate to Rhythmic ( give 3 examples) (3) Demonstrate how to use music to teach the dance in the examples given.
