4 AONeuro Symposium Decompressive Craniectomy in Neurotrauma Goal of the symposium The AONeuro Symposium Decompressive Craniectomy in Neurotrauma covers the theoretical basis and practical principles for managing decompressive craniectomy, addressing complications, and cranial decompression techniques. Target participants The symposium has been developed for residents and surgeons that manage neurotrauma and reconstruction and those who have a strong interest in these fields. Symposium objectives Upon completion of this symposium, participants should be able to: Manage basic and advances concepts for decompressive craniotomy in neurotrauma. Conduct surgical decompression techniques following evidence based recommendations from clinical studies. Plan and perform appropriate operative treatment including cranial reconstruction after decompression. Manage complications associated with primary and secondary cranial decompression. Symposium description This symposium covers the current best strategies and considerations for decompressive craniectomy managing neurotrauma patients. It features international faculty of experts and is based on the competencies defined in AONeuro's curriculum in neurotrauma including decompression techniques. The symposium content is delivered using various educational methods. Comprehensive lectures concentrate on the understanding of core material. Interactive case presentations further deepen this knowledge and facilitate the discussion in trauma management. Case-based discussions link the lecture material with the clinical problems commonly encountered in every-day practice.
