1 Young Start Scotland Awards Number of Awards:37 Total amount awarded: 1,534,172 Organisation Local Authority Award Project summary Citymoves Dance Agency Aberdeen 48,520 The group will provide more opportunities for boys in Aberdeen to take up dance by offering a range of weekly dance and art activities and work towards creating a piece of dance that they will perform for local audiences. Community Renewal Trust Aberdeen 46,591 This project will develop a local network of new Young Community Leaders in Torry, Aberdeen who will be supported to learn new skills and engage with local older people. The youngsters will identify small scale wellbeing projects which would benefit the local community and be supported to develop, manage and deliver them. They will also be given the chance to go on a "Community Leadership" course delivered by the Community Renewal Trust. Aberdeen FC Community Trust Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire 37,828 This project will support 50 young people over two years to gain essential skills, qualifications and experiences to enable them to become become role models and sports coaches in their local community. The youngsters will get the chance to take part in a range of educational workshops and topics include Cultural Awareness and Mental Health First Aid. Angus Women's Aid Ltd Angus 49,739 The group will set up a Young Experts Group to will develop, promote and deliver various initiatives focusing on domestic abuse and its impact. The group will make community connections and run a series of domestic violence group work sessions in local schools and youth clubs. Brechin Youth Project Angus 23,335 This group will be able to continue to run their drop-in youth club facility which is open four nights per week from 6.30pm to 10pm for young people aged12 years and over. Entrance and membership are free and the project offers local youngsters a range of activities including pool, table tennis, quizzes and party nights. Specialist workshops will also be delivered in-house by partners including Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue and Cairscotland. DD8 Music Angus 50,000 This community project, based in Kirriemuir, will provide a range of music based activities, for local young people from their studio in the town. Drake Music Scotland Edinburgh 28,775 This project will help young people who have learning difficulties to pursue a future in music and music technology. The youngsters will get a range of tuition and support to develop their skills in music mixing and sampling. These new skills will help to boost their confidence as well as increasing their potential to get a job in the music industry or progress to full time further education. Page 1 of 5
2 Granton Youth Centre Limited Edinburgh 49,550 The group will set up an employability programme aimed at building up the technological knowledge and employability skills of 200 local disadvantaged young people aged fifteen and over who live in Granton, Craigroyston, Muirhouse and Pilton. They will also be able to upgrade their IT Suite where workshops will be delivered by specially qualified youth work staff. Kids in the Street Edinburgh 40,580 This group will be able to continue and also develop their 'City Sports' programme giving more local young people the chance to participate in a range of free sports activities. The project will work with an additional 300 young people over the next two years. The Children's Parliament Venchie Children and Young people's Project Edinburgh 46,111 The group will work with 30 primary school pupils to support them to engage and work with 150 adults in five communities in Edinburgh to inform them about bullying that may take place in their area and plan together how best to help them. The youngsters will report back on their findings and deliver workshops to local groups. Edinburgh 47,000 This group will be able to continue to run their existing Breakfast Club which is used by approximately 35 children each school term time. Youth Bus Group Edinburgh 46,015 The group will be able to continue to run their drop-in youth programme The Buz, in North East Edinburgh. The project is based in a converted single decker bus used as a mobile youth club, providing a varied programme of recreational and educational activities for local youngsters. Saheliya Scottish Mediation Network Edinburgh, Edinburgh, West Lothian, Dundee 49,344 This project will provide opportunities to isolated and marginalized young women from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities between the age 12-25, to gain confidence and self-esteem by building their trust, developing their life skills, life experiences and helping them to become active citizens and change makers. 49,974 This project will support 200 young people in Dundee, Angus and West Lothian to learn new skills in a format that willbe used to create a best practice model that can be used across Scotland. Mediation training will enable young people to deal more effectively with conflict and other challenging social situations and will help increase communication skills and confidence. Barnardo's Scotland Falkirk 41,009 The group will run a performing arts project for young people in HMYOI Polmont. The youngsters will also have the chance to join a steering group to have a say in managing the project and will work to gain accreditation certificates. Page 2 of 5
3 Falkirk Community Trust Limited Falkirk 33,900 This project will set up a pupil led 'Coach Academy' across the whole of Falkirk Council, providing a pathway for 296 pupils aged between 14 and 24 to develop key skills, experiences and qualifications to enable them to lead and deliver quality physical activity opportunities in their schools and in the wider community. Central Carers Association Falkirk and Clackmannan Falkirk, Clackmannanshire 49,852 This project will deliver a variety of activities aimed at young carers, and will provide a range of emotional and practical support when needed. The group will work with up to 300 local young people. Fairway Fife Fife 49,945 This project will pair a young person with a learning disability with a non-disabled peer of a similar age who will befriend and support them to take part in a range of social activities from trips to the cinema, bowling, theatre and sports and exercise. Africa in Motion 26,300 The group will run a "Young Programmers Traineeship" Scheme aimed at young people between the ages of 18 and 24 from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds to help increase the number of young people in the arts. ANYiSO 49,760 The group will be able to employ a project co-ordinator to run a programme of music lessons and dance classes for young people aged The activities would run three times a week in Knightswood Community Centre and in Scotstoun Awaz Voice of the Community 44,612 The group will provide a range of for young people aged between 14 and 18 years old to help them overcome barriers to employment, training and education. They will work with up to 60 young people offering them training sessions at the Awaz FM recording studio. Centre for Entrepreneurship Education Scotland CIC Country Holidays for Inner City Kids 46,001 This group will run a programme of activities aimed at raising confidence and improving skills of young people aged 12 to 18 years of age from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds. Activities will be on offer twice every week and will include cookery and healthy eating, budgeting skills and dance and drama. 15,954 The project will allow 16 disadvantaged young people from young carer groups to benefit from a week of dedicated, respite care at one of the group's countryside retreats in Derbyshire. Dance House 49,924 This project will work with young people in three areas of allowing them to take part in a variety of art forms, supported by community arts facilitators. The proposal will both continue and build on an existing Bus Stop community programme based in the Bridgeton, Milton and Scotstounhill areas of. Girls FC 48,370 This project will increase the opportunities for more young people to develop confidence and health by playing football and taking part in matches delivered by the group s community development programme. Enterprise Childcare Inverclyde 10,504 This project will support up to 30 children and young people 8-16 years of age with Autism by providing play and activity clubs for four weeks during the summer holidays and one week in October The group will run three clubs to meet the different needs of the children and young people they work with. 4 Inverclyde Carers Centre Inverclyde 50,000 This project will provide information, support and advice to young people with who have a caring responsibility. It will also provide help to local families and carers who care for children and young people. A new young carers group will be set up as well as a new study/homework group and online and group peer support will also be on offer. North East Sensory Services Moray, Aberdeen City 26,143 This project will run a year long regular programme of activities and social contact groups to children and young people who are visually and/or hearing impaired. The project will also provide practical and emotional support on an individual basis to help participants to manage the African Lanarkshire for Mental Health The Clyde FC Community Foundation North Lanarkshire North Lanarkshire challenges they face 49,956 This project will give young people the skills to be able to express themselves through music and creativity. The young people targeted for this activity are from African communities in Lanarkshire who are experiencing issues with mental health, particularly around low self-confidence. The programme will introduce a range of activities from learning to playwriting songs, poems and dance. 48,000 The Start Young, Grow Young project will focus on young children aged 8 years and above using a range of sport and exercise to encourage them to have more healthy and active lifestyle. The group will work with young people in the Kildrum and Carbrain areas of Cumbernauld. Access to Industry North Lanarkshire, South Lanarkshire 49,200 This project will support to young people within HMP& HMYOI Polmont and give them access to activities, training and employability opportunities. Youngsters will be given a range of support up to six months after they are released and the group will work with 70 young people over the year. Renfrewshire Leisure Ltd Renfrewshire 13,724 The group will identify and engage with 20 young people aged between years helping them develop a personal development plan and take part in mentoring and training opportunities to become Young Leaders at five Community Sports Hubs confab Scotland wide 46,500 This project will increase the confidence, wellbeing and resilience of 350 young people by giving them the chance to improve their literacy, language and presentation skills through a process of innovative and participatory poetry and presentation workshops. The skills they gain will give them the confidence to compete in regional and national poetry Slams. The National Deaf Children's Society Scotland-wide 49,946 This project will continue the Deaf Friendly Swimming in Scotland and extend the reach of the activities to work in the more remote parts of Scotland as well as the Central belt. Youngsters will take part in local Learn to Swim courses and targeted swimming sessions in clubs. The group will continue to develop and maintain partnerships/training with leisure providers and staff and train professionals to make aquatic activities like diving and water polo more accessible. 5 YouthBorders Scottish Borders 21,210 This group will give local young people the skills to make videos and radio blogs, hold talks around their sexual health and relationships. This project will help them to gain confidence in their skills and abilities and prepare them for further education or employment. Scottish European Educational Trust West Dunbartonshire Council for Voluntary Services Edinburgh, West Dunbartonshire 50,000 This film making project will run over a two year period and will engage with 600 young people, aged across Scotland. The youngsters will be invited to create story boards of film ideas around the theme of global citizenship. They will receive support from professional filmmakers and the finished films will be shown at an event at the Scottish Parliament. 50,000 The project will work to develop the skills and confidence of young people aged between 14 and 22 from the West Dunbartonshire area. The youngsters will take part in a range of activities from teamwork, confidence building, fundraising and first aid training and they will have the chance to earn badges to recognise their work.
