4 Risk assessment cycle and risk mitigation strategy - PREPARATION EMERGENCY RESPONSE RECOVERY AND REVIEW PREVENTION PROTECTION PREPARDNESS EMERGENCY RESPONSE Land use planning policies, Regulation, Removal or relocation, Limit soil compaction and sealing, Conserve, protect and, where possible, Restore vegetation and forest in mountainous areas, riparian woodland and meadows, Conserve, protect and, where possible, restore degraded wetlands and flood plains, Reconnect of floodplains to the river by e.g. relocating dykes, opening natural levees, Conserve Sandbanks and sand dunes, Improve knowledge Maintenance programmes, Construct areas for controlled flooding, Construct and/or heighten dikes, protect, heighten and develop sandbanks, dams or on-line storage areas, beach nourishment and protection Flood forecasting and warning, Contingency planning, public awareness and preparedness, risk communication and education, Inform and teach people what to do before, during and after a flood Emergency Event Response Planning, Inform and teach people what to do before, during and after a flood, Evacuation, Develop contingency plans RECOVERY AND REVIEW EMERGENCY RESPONSE RISK ASSESSMENT CYCLE PREVENTION PROTECTION RECOVERY AND REVIEW Individual and societal Recovery, Clean-up and restoration activities (buildings, infrastructure, etc.), Health and mental health supporting actions, incl. managing stress, Disaster financial assistance (grants, tax), incl. disaster legal assistance, disaster unemployment assistance Temporary or permanent relocation, Environmental recovery, Clean-up and restoration activities, Lessons learnt from flood events FLOODS PREPARDNESS

10 MAIN IDEAS AND FEEDBACK Young people are conscious, optimist, and have trust in institutions and professionals, so they suggest to cooperate with Authorities and to assume the correct behavior during and after a flood: Keep calm, we can fix that They demand concrete and simple info's from institutions and fast interventions They focus on solidarity and an inclusive strategy of rescue and recovery ( all people must be saved, also pets, other villages can come to give help, listen to each others ) They have a particular care for children that can be traumatized by a flood event (you can organize specific games for them..) They all focus on the necessity of prepare safe places and inform population about it (action plan, organize evacuations) Prepare emergency kit and survival package ( we also need radio to listen music )
