2 Who do I support? Each parish appoints a Safeguarding Representative THE SAFEGUARDING REPRESENTATIVE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ASSISTING THE PARISH PRIEST IN: Applying the National Safeguarding Policies available from : Managing the safer recruitment procedures (including CRB Disclosure applications) for eligible volunteers and employees The provision of suitable training from local sources and Diocese of Southwark, local safeguarding induction, and ongoing support Level 1 Module 2 2

3 What do I do? The role of Parish Safeguarding Representative includes: Receiving reports of concerns Receiving disclosures Communication with the Safeguarding Coordinator and Safeguarding Officer Working with the parish and the diocese where an offender is living in parish (subject to a covenant of care) TRAINING AND SUPPORT ARE ALWAYS AVAILABLE Level 1 Module 2 3

4 Safeguarding Structure in the Catholic Church The current structure was set up in response to Lord Nolan s Report A Time for Action, which was published in In 2007, Baroness Cumberlege issued a report reviewing the progress of the 83 recommendations of Lord Nolan and in turn made a further 72 recommendations. 5 Diocesan Safeguarding Commissions Each Diocese in England and Wales has a Diocesan Safeguarding Commission whose Membership is defined in the National Policy and is a multi agency body with an Independent Chair Level 1 Module 2 5

12 Abuse Aware If we are to work with children and vulnerable adults it is essential that we are aware of the possibility of various abuses....
