3 MEMBER SERVICES OFFICER We have a variety of internal committees to address gaps in services that PGSS can offer. On a larger scale, we have many members act as representatives on external McGill. As MSO, and with my committee, we plan, coordinate events, advocate for improvement to existing services or implement new initiatives.

6 CHAIR THE HEALTH AND WELLNESS COMMITTEE (HAWC) Initiatives continued Improving access to peer support for satellite campuses Collaboration with PSC Needs assessment survey Empower Me is a new program to supplement existing resources focused on 24/7 counselling access. This service is not geographically limited as any McGill Graduate student will have access to this service in November. Multiple options to seek help are available without paying any additional fees on top of the one-time annual cost of 4.20$ per student. Students may choose to video conference, collect-call for a telephone session, , or see a counselor in person. A proposal has been given to McGill for their support in providing 50% of the funds to launch this pilot project for one year.

9 Free Thomson House is for McGill grad students and postdocs who are interested in meditation practice, mindfulness, stress relief, life balance, and relaxation. It runs weekly. Join us for a break in your day to cultivate focus and inner peace. No previous meditation experience necessary; each session is designed to be accessible to anyone interested. Mats are provided, though you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer.

10 QUEBEC HEALTH ACCESSORY FEE LAW In late January 2017, Quebec passed a law that made extra medical fees for services covered by the Régie de l'assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ) illegal. Because of this law, Student Health Services can no longer provide some vaccines to students. The vaccines affected are: McGill Student Health can offer the vaccine FREE for those who have a Quebec Medicare Card and meet at least one the Department of Public Health's Criteria. Also, to students that require it for academic purposes (Health Sciences faculties primarily).

11 FLU SHOT CRITERIA Healthy adults 60 years of age or over. Have a long term chronic medical condition e.g. asthma, diabetes, etc. Have a long term heart or lung problem. Have a lowered resistance to infection because of cancer or other immunological disorders. Live with a child 0-23 months of age. Live with individuals at risk especially those confined to their homes. Are a health care worker or have frequent contact with people in the high risk groups.

12 Students can sign up to reserve a therapy lamp from the PGSS, loan periods are for two weeks. Reserved lamps must be picked up within 48 hours. Lamps must be then returned to the PGSS office by the 2 week deadline. While the lamps are free to rent for PGSS members, there is $40 deposit that will be held until the return of the therapy lamp to room 401 of the Thomson House. The service is free provided the lamps are returned on time and with normal use (no damage). The deposit can be paid online (below) or in cash. Late returns will result in a $5/day late fee. Any damage to the lamps (other than from normal use) will also result in a reduction of the deposit to pay for repairs. The PGSS lamps are Northern Light Technologies "Travelite" this lightweight model is perfect for bringing to your lab, office or apartment.

13 FAMILY MCGILL Family Resources SEDE Office Assists student parents & caregivers, provides trainings to units around family friendly-campus, one-onone support and case management, events and activities and community building activities! Member Services Officer PGSS Coordinator of PGSS Family initiatives such as Nursing Room and Study Sessions, as well as holiday gift exchanges and general advocacy on behalf of student parents to the rest of PGSS Council! PGSS Family Care Caucus chaired by MSO; creates and facilitates family oriented initiatives at PGSS Senate Subcommittee on Family Care A committee which works on family care issues at the University. Recruiting members always! If you are passionate about policy and advocacy you may be interested in joining.

14 SSPKP Once a month McGill student parents are able to complete academic work while their child(ren) are looked after by volunteers in an adjacent space. A snacks and refreshments are provided.

15 MCGILL SSMU Volunteer Babysitting Club In collaboration SSMU, we will be launching a free babysitting club this year. To know more about accessing this service please contact: family.coordinator@mcgill.ca

16 MCGILL 1. Guidelines for the accommodation of a pregnant or nursing student. This policy is meant to ensure that you can request accommodations if you are pregnant or a primary caregiver in the case of your child being sick or your caregiving responsibilities forcing you to be unable to complete an assignment. We are reviewing and adjusting the policy (to make it even better) but it is a good place to start! 2. Leave of Absence for Health/Parental Reasons This policy outlines what you can request as a Graduate Student or Postdoc if you need to take a leave of absence for health or parental reasons (i.e maternity leave). You are entitled to take a leave of up to 52 weeks (consecutively) after the birth of a child. 3. Unofficially Many students work out arrangements case by case with their supervisors. We suggest meeting with us before if choose to do this to ensure you can self-advocate fairly! It is good to ensure you are getting a fair deal if you choose to go outside official policy and procedure. 4. Lab Workers Accommodation Policy Discussions have started at the Administration level addressing a creation of this policy.

17 FAMILY ACTIVITIES Collective Kitchens Once a month families come to cook, we take care of children and you go home with healthy vegan meals for the week. This program is free and a great way to meet other caregivers! Parenting & Support Circles Parenting and skills circles, if you would like to lead a session get in touch! You don t need to have any qualifications or expertise officially to facilitate a talk. Mentorship Program If you would like to be a mentor, you would be committing to up to 10 hours/month of mentoring and the experience would go on your co-curricular record. If you want to access mentoring, get in touch!
