2 The Relationships Between Preputial Condition and Personal Hygienic Practice of Senior School Boys in Two Primary Schools Chien-Yu Su 1 and Ya- Lan Yin 2 The preputial hygiene is always an ignored item to boys. The study is to remind the medical practitioners to avoid unnecessary surgery and to collect the useful data about preputial hygienic practice. This survey contained 890 subjects during and , but just 433 parents, who accepted their boys enrolled into this study to fill in a guestionnaire and to receive external genital organs examination. The results indicated that the boys learned preputial hygienic knowledge mainly from their parents (77.8%), school teachers (26.9%)and medical practitioners (21.8%). The averaged score of the boy s hygienic perception is (with the full score 6), indicating that there is still room for educating the boys how to care about genital hygiene. For the genital organ evaluation, 7.6% of boys were circumcised, 36.3% of boys had foreskin adhesion, 13.2% of boys had smegma accumulation, 56.8% of boys had easily retractable foreskin, 38.3% of boys had normal degree of phimosis, and 60.3% of boys had normal coronary cleanliness. We use Chi-square test to assess the correlations-- the preputial cleaning frequency was correlated with degree of phimosis but not related to coronary cleanliness. There were also significiant correlations of the circumcision with the degree of phimosis, preputial retractability and coronary cleanliness. The preputial hygienic perception was related to cleaning frequency with one-way ANOVA analysis. Our conclusion: Although most of the boys surveyed cleaned their own foreskins daily and were aware of their hygienic problems, their genital hygienic knowledge still need to be enhanced. The boys perception on preputial hygiene does influence their cleaning frequency. But the appropriate cleaning practice plays more important role on the cleanliness of preputium penis than the mere frequency itself. We must strengthen and correct the boys and parents hygienic practice and perception, to implement the important role of school education and medical consultation so as to reduce the unnecessary preputial medical problems.
