Since 2013 the TBCA is being reformulated aiming: To update the website To develop a computational tool for personalized menu planning To elaborate the Brazilian Food Biodiversity Database To elaborate the Nutrient Intake Evaluation Database (NIE-DB) These activities are coordinated by BRASILFOODS, USP and Food Research Center (FoRC/CEPID/FAPESP) Financial support

To elaborate the Nutrient Intake Evaluation Database (NIE-DB) Prioritizing analytical data from foods produced or commercialized in Brazil Including the complete nutrient profile for foods reported in the food consumption surveys

1st approach Analytical data compiled for foods produced or commercialized in Brazil Data from Brazilian foods (TBCA) Aggregation of food records with similar descriptions FAO/INFOODS criteria and other Adjustments for iron and folic acid content for fortified foods According to the mandatory fortification in Brazil Filling missing data Data from other countries

2nd approach Collection of recipes for composite dishes Calculation of the nutrient profile of recipes Development of a NIE-DB to be used in National Dietary Survey (IBGE) Match the codes of corresponding foods between databases

Currently, the NIE-DB comprises data for 1,900 food entries including raw and cooked foods, manufactured products and composite dishes The database includes nutrient values for proximate composition, fat fractions, 10 minerals and 10 vitamins

2071 foods reported in the National Dietary Survey x 1,900 foods in NIE-DB Cereal grains, pasta and baked products Roots and tubers Vegetables Legumes Fruits Nuts Miscellaneous foods Meat products Fish Poultry and eggs Milk and dairy products Sweets Fats and oils Beverages 730 foods evaluated 88% foods were available in the NIE- DB 12% of foods were borrowed from international data 44% direct match 56% recipe calculation

National Dietary Survey / Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (NDS/IBGE) Coordinated by Roseli Schieri - Institute of Social Medicine - RJ A standardized computer and interview-based method for dietary monitoring - developed by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), a WHO-UN organization Brazil and Mexico were the pilot countries for the customization of the GloboDiet version for Latin America Coordinated by Dirce Marchioni School of Public Health - SP Applied for a call to financial support to assess the nutritional status (including nutrient intake data) of 6,000 children in Brazil. Validation of GloboDiet for children (project still under evaluation)

- Inclusion of NIE-DB in a computational tool developed to generate personalized menus This tool will assist nutritionists in their professional practice

O NIE-DB is available on the TBCA website ( a public website) Status: available online Official launch 16 th October 2017 World Food Day

The new Nutrient Intake Evaluation Database (NIE-DB) will allow for the first time in Brazil the assessment of the nutrient intake for both individual and population based on national food composition data
