9 Vitamin E CVEP APPROACH CVEP, A Cefic Sector Group, represents the producers of vitamin E Production of anchovy fishmeal samples in South Africa Start in January 2018 at the latest for one year Laboratory analyses performed by experienced local lab DETERMINATION OF SAFE VIT E DOSAGE Establish range of safe & effective Vit E dosage levels supported by mathematical-chemical calculations Implementing calculated dosage range in the trial to determine the most probable quantity effective in fish meal stabilisation

13 AMENDMENT TIMELINE FOR THE IMDG CODE Accepted into UN-TDG Model regulations (Nov 2016) IMO meetings during 2017 to harmonise UN Model Regulations with the IMDG Code (May and September) Marine Safety Committee (MSC) to adopt amendments of the IMDG Code (May/June 2018) Can be used on voluntary basis from 1 st January Mandatory 1st January 2020.

14 IMO IMDG CODE AMENDED TEXT (Accepted at IMO E&T meeting in Sept 2017) SP 308 Stabilization of fish meal shall be achieved to prevent spontaneous combustion by effective application of ethoxyquin, BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene) or tocopherols (also used in a blend with rosemary extract) at the time of production.the said application shall occur within twelve months prior to shipment. Fish scrap or fish meal shall contain at least 50 ppm (mg/kg) of ethoxyquin, 100 ppm (mg/kg) of BHT or 250 ppm (mg/kg) of tocopherol based antioxidant at the time of consignment.
