1 Child Dev 2: Unit 1 Test Early Childhood Classroom, Play, & Childhood Illnesses These are a mixture of different types of questions, but you ve probably encountered them before. So many times, in fact, you no longer read directions. Are you even reading this right now? So, I think you know what to do with each question. If you don t know what to do with something, ask me, kay? (and thnx and bai) 1. Write the term for each age stage next to the range: a. Birth to 12 months- b. 1 to 3 years old- c. 3 to 5 years old- d. 5 to 12 years old- e. 13 to 18 years old- 2. Complete the following chart about the five general areas of development: Area of Development Example 3. If child care providers have a(n), they are registered with the state and meet health and safety standards. 4. Some child care providers who meet strict standards for quality child care earn from a recognized organization such as the NAEYC.

2 5. What does NAEYC stand for? 6. Many parents choose center- based care because: a. Center- based care is usually less expensive than home based care b. Center- based care usually provides more individual attention than home based care. c. Child care centers must be licensed and may also be accredited by the NAEYC d. Child care centers are often easier for children to adjust to than home based care 7. When designing an early childhood classroom, staff members should... a. Make sure that nothing separates the learning centers to encourage social development d. Yeast infection that occurs in the mouth and causes creamy, white lesions on the tongue or around the mouth. Virus which symptoms include slight fever, headaches, earache, and painfully swollen glands on the face and neck; can only be caught once. Virus that produces a high fever that lasts about two- three days and followed by a faint ink pinpoint rash that appears on the torso. Fever followed by a rash; 1 out of 1000 sufferers will develop encephalitis (swelling of the brain), which can be deadly. Known as pinkeye, marked by red, pussy eyes. It is VERY contagious. The leading cause of severe acute gastroenteritis (vomiting and severe diarrhea) among children worldwide Illnesses caused by a very common type of bacteria. Depending on the part of the body attacked, the result could be pneumonia, meningitis, middle ear and sinus infections and/or a blood infection. A bacterial infection in the throat and the tonsils. The throat gets irritated and inflamed. It is treated with antibiotics A. Pneumococcal Disease B. Roseola C. Rubella D. Strep Throat E. Rotavirus F. Conjunctivitis G. Measles H. Thrush I. Mumps H. They have no interest in what other children are playing with. d. Child is a part of a group that has a specific purpose in mind such as making an art project or playing a game. There are usually leaders and followers in this type of play. e. Child plays beside the other children; there is no actual interaction with other children, but the toys are similar. f. Child is not involved in any particular activity but just observes what seems interesting at the time. They may appear to be day dreaming. 35.
