WOUND CARE IS COMPLEX & COSTLY Therapy can help. PROBLEM Complex wounds pose challenges to clinicians and patients in terms of achieving desired outcomes while managing healthcare costs. 1-5 OUTCOMES & BENEFITS Independent studies have demonstrated that Negative Pressure Wound Therapy can be more effective than V.A.C. Negative Pressure Wound Therapy alone. Retrospective study with Prontosan Wound Irrigation Solution showed: 6 Reduced OR Visits Reduced Time to Final Surgical Procedure Reduced Length of Stay Prospective study with Saline showed: 2 Enhanced Granulation Tissue SOLUTION Therapy, the only NPWT system with an instillation feature which allows solution to dwell in the wound for thorough contact with the wound bed, has demonstrated better outcomes when compared to V.A.C. Therapy alone. 6,2 vaculta.com
The evolution of V.A.C. Therapy: V.A.C.Ulta NPWT Therapy System with Therapy Automated Therapy With two pumps, one for automated, controlled instillation and the other for removal of topical wound solutions, for example, saline or Prontosan Wound Irrigation Solution Product Enhancements Intuitive Touch Screen Interface with simple menus Fill Assist helps to determine correct instillation volume Dressing Soak instills topical wound solutions into the wound for easier dressing removal and increased patient comfort Dressings with higher tensile strength and less hydrophobicity C Drape with improved adhesive properties D Therapy combines the proven benefits of V.A.C. Therapy with an instillation option featuring dwell time
National statistics show that managing complex wounds can be costly. There are over 6.5 MIL. patients afflicted with chronic wounds and over $25 BIL. is spent annually to treat them. 1-2 It takes an average of 25.4 DAYS to treat complex wounds using moist wound dressings. 3 Each year trauma accounts for 2.3 MIL. hospitalizations associated with inpatient costs of $33.7 BIL. 7 The cost of treating a single full-thickness pressure ulcer is as high as $70,000 and total annual costs for treatment of pressure ulcers in the U.S. is estimated at $11 BIL. 4 What is your approach to closure? Cleansing Regularly wash and cleanse the wound bed, thereby: Removing infectious materials Reducing risk of compromised wound healing due to contamination or bioburden Diluting and solubizing devitalized tissue and slough Granulation Promote granulation tissue formation Cover exposed structures Increase wound fill Decrease wound volume Addressing malodorous wounds Decreasing viscosity and volume of exudate Reducing pain and discomfort at dressing changes Closure
Reported Clinical Outcomes & Benefits Cleansing approach with Prontosan Wound Irrigation Solution Physicians at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, Center for Wound Healing examined the impact of Therapy with Prontosan Wound Irrigation Solution (using either a 6 or 20 min. soak time and negative pressure of 3.5 hours or 2hours at -125mmHg) versus V.A.C. Therapy in 142 patients with infected wounds that required hospitalization and serial surgical debridement. 5 STUDY RESULTS Trips to OR Reduced OR Visits NPWT: n=74 NPWTi: n=34 20 min dwell time Reduction of ~1/2 Trip p=0.003 V.A.C. Therapy Therapy Reduced Length of Stay 14.9 In this study Therapy with Prontosan instillation was more cost effective than V.A.C. Therapy. An economic model based on MedStar Georgetown University study results and cost modeling assumptions indicates potential savings as high as: $8,613 savings per patient in the 6 min. dwell time group A $9,117 savings per patient in the 20 min. dwell time group B Days Days V.A.C. Therapy Reduced Time to Final Surgical Procedure Therapy 7.5 Reduction of ~4 days p=0.034 Reduction of ~2 days p=0.002 Actual savings will vary based on individual facility costs, protocol and patients. V.A.C. Therapy Therapy
Therapy with Prontosan Wound Irrigation Solution provides ease of use through: Automated volumetric therapy with customizable dwell time Compatible bottle with spikable cap adapter Streamlined solution ordering and facility supply room storage What is Prontosan Wound Irrigation Solution? Prontosan is a clear and virtually odorless wound cleanser containing PHMB (polyhexamethylene biguanide) and betaine (surfactant). These two ingredients are combined to maximize wound cleansing: PHMB (Polyhexanide) functions as a preservative (also found in contact lens solution) that inhibits the growth of microorganisms in the bottle. Betaine (Surfactant) is a surface-active cleanser that provides immediate debridement. Cleansing and granulation approach with saline In a prospective, multi-center case series of 131 patients with complex wounds treated with Therapy using saline with a 10 minute soak time and negative pressure ranging between 4 and 12 hours at -125mmHg, the authors found that: 2 35% of patients had received conventional V.A.C. Therapy prior to Therapy 35% 65% Complex wounds closed with Therapy 98% Therapy Previously on V.A.C. Therapy The main observed clinical effect noted by the authors was that Therapy using saline showed enhanced granulation tissue production compared to conventional V.A.C. Therapy, in terms of filling the dead space more rapidly and completely.
