I am less compassionate now than I was as an MS1 - I get frustrated when people are unhealthy because of poor lifestyle choices (smoking, overeating, lack of exercise, etc). However, I am still very happy to have a career in medicine for other reasons - it is challenging and you are constantly learning, the complexities of the human body are fascinating to me, you are allowed more independence than in many other professions (although insurance companies seem to be edging out physician discretion more every year), you are generally respected and have a decent income and steady job.
