Enables students to combine various theoretical orientations with appropriate psychotherapy techniques in order to provide maximally effective help to clients. While based on theoretical and research literature, the focus is on the development of therapy integration skills. Integrative ideas will be drawn primarily from cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic conceptualizations of therapeutic intervention, augmented by other perspectives, such as multicultural, feminist, and spiritual conceptualizations of emotional recovery. PY820: Advanced Seminar: Brief Psychotherapy A discussion-based psychotherapy theory course for advanced doctoral students in clinical psychology. Covered the humanitarian, empirical, and economic rationale for brief therapy. Discussed major theories of brief therapy, including psychodynamic, interpersonal, cognitive behavioral, and solution-focused perspective. Also presented special topics such as single session therapies, brief therapy for substance abuse, and multicultural issues in brief therapy PY884: Case Conference A practicum course for third-year doctoral students in clinical psychology. Students presented cases seen at their practica sites and received consultation in a small group setting. PY786: Social Psychology and Social Responsibility An overview course covering basic social psychological theory and research for first-year doctoral students in clinical psychology, with special emphasis on the application of these ideas to clinical psychology. Course format includes readings, lectures, small group exercises and assignments, and demonstrations. COURSES TAUGHT AT UNIVERSITY AT BUFFALO CEP 630: Doctoral Seminar in Counseling Psychology A discussion-based psychotherapy theory course for advanced doctoral students in counseling psychology and counselor education. Readings include original works by psychodynamic, humanistic, cognitive, integrative, systems, and post-modern scholars. Taught in a process experiential style; group discussion was supplemented by small group activities. CEP 596CP: Field Work in Counseling Psychology Fauth vita 8
9 A discussion and experiential counseling skills course for beginning doctoral students in counseling psychology. The course is taught in conjunction with a practicum experience at the university counseling center. Readings, role-plays, and group supervision were the primary instructional activities. CEP 653: Foundations of Counseling Theory A lecture- and discussion-based survey of the major counseling theories for master s level rehabilitation counselors, school counselors, and counseling psychologists. Power-point presentations supplemented by large-group discussion, small group activities, and role-play demonstrations. CEP 658: Introduction to Group Work A large lecture and experiential course for master s level rehabilitation counselors, school counselors, and counseling psychologists. Students in the course participate in a small group experience led by advanced students. Primary instructional methods were power point lectures, small-group problem-solving activities, and fishbowl exercises. CEP 665: Doctoral Seminar in Supervision A practicum in supervision for advanced doctoral students in counseling psychology and counselor education. Students in the class provided supervision for master s level trainees in school and rehabilitation counseling. Instructional methods included group discussion of assigned readings, clinical presentations, and group meta-supervision. All students in the course also received individual meta-supervision; I supplied meta-supervision for four students. COURSES CO-TAUGHT AT THE PENNSYLVANIA STATE UNIVERSITY CNPSY 597B: Group Psychotherapy An advanced group psychotherapy course that included both didactic and applied components. Part of class was spent learning group theory. The other part entailed facilitating a training group for undergraduate and master s students. CNPSY 597A: Family Counseling and Psychotherapy The goal of this course was to broaden students understanding of problems to include systemic influences.
