1 Ambulatory Rotation Mini-lecture Curriculum for IM Residents Welcome to Department of Medicine s Ambulatory Rotation Mini-lecture Curriculum. This site is your primary source to access the posted Mini-lectures, articles and other resources provided to you for your ambulatory rotation. All interns and senior residents who rotate through the Ambulatory block must complete the ambulatory educational goals and requirements. Compliance with these requirements will be reviewed during your semi-annual review. Delinquencies must be completed prior to the end of intern year. Please contact Dr. Zsuzsanna Sandor (Susanna.Szabo@va.gov) or Dr. Bavani Nadeswaran (bnadeswa@uci.edu) with any questions. Objectives: To formally ensure that specific Ambulatory Medicine core topics are discussed during the ambulatory rotation To ensure all categorical IM residents receive standardized teaching during their Ambulatory Medicine rotations Instructions: Each resident and intern will have the opportunity to contribute to the mini-lecture curriculum, either: 1.By finding review articles (PGY-1s), 2.Making mini-lectures (PGY-2s) or 3.By making relevant MKSAP style questions (PGY-3s). Please note that THIS IS IN ADDITION TO THE OTHER REQUIRED MATERIALS THAT NEEDS TO BE SUBMITTED AT THE END OF THE ROTATION (blue cards, patient satisfaction, clinic project, Hopkin s Modules, etc). Please review the rest of the Ambulatory rotation curriculum for further details. To receive credit for mini-lecture portion of your Ambulatory rotation, you must do the following: A. PGY-1 residents are required to find relevant review articles on core outpatient topics (see below) and to submit it to the rotation director(s) for further review. If approved by the director(s), the review articles will be posted online under the new curriculum website. B. PGY-2 residents are required to make a mini-lecture on one of the core outpatient topics (listed below) based on new guidelines during their ambulatory blocks 1 & 2 (total of 2 per year). They will be required to present their mini-lecture to one of the rotation Directors (Either Dr. Sandor or Dr. Nadeswaran) at the end of each block. Residents will be notified about the time and location of the presentations during each block. Residents will receive constructive feedback and are required to revise their power-points based on the feedback they receive.
2 The final version of their power-points will be posted on Ambulatory curriculum website. C. PGY-3 residents will be required to make at least 5 MKSAP style questions with answers for each relevant topics during their CBT rotations. Questions will be submitted to Susan Altmayer, will be reviewed by a faculty, and will be eventually posted on Ambulatory curriculum website Tips on Successful Mini-lecture Presentation: 1. Limit the presentation to less than 10 minutes 2. Focused with limited take home messages 3. Use Visual Aids: Involving the learner through participation 4. Limit text on the slides. Instead include details of your presentation in the note section as guidance for further instructions. 5. Try to include at least one case vignette in your presentation 6. Refer to the UCI residency website to review prior mini-lectures for further information.
