3 TYSA History Founded in 2011, with funds from The Staten Island Foundation, Tackling Youth Substance Abuse (TYSA) is a cross-sector collaboration aimed at leveraging the power of collective impact to dramatically improve health outcomes for SI youth. This project seeks to drive major improvements in youth substance abuse prevention and treatment on Staten Island by reducing youth substance abuse rates.

11 Partnership Profile: Physician Prescribing In 2011, Staten Island providers very difficult to engage around opioid issue 2013 Commissioner Farley led 2 town hall events for providers at local hospitals RUMC and SIUH/Northwell Physician detailing campaign to over 900 practices with guidelines, posters, and treatment resources

12 Partnership Profile: Narcan Through TYSA workgroups, NYPD worked with CBOs providing naloxone trainings to develop a pilot to roll out at a Staten Island precinct. This was later expanded across NYC. TYSA worked with government partners to offer the first naloxone training for community members. They are now held monthly and the medication is available at participating pharmacies through citywide efforts.

14 Partnership Results Between 2008 and 2014 rx painkiller use decreased by 83% among 7 th 12 th graders Between 2011 and 2013, opioid overdose deaths in Staten Island decreased 32% among Staten Island residents, even as overdose deaths increased in NYC Source: Youth Development Survey NYS Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services. New Data Show Drop In Opioid Analgesic Overdose Deaths in Staten Island But Overall Drug Overdoses Increased In New York City, NYC Department of Health and Public Hygiene,
