The Changing World of Drug Abuse Drug trafficking is different and more organized. Small communities and rural areas are having a more significant problem. Adults in the community represent the users of the 60 s, 70 s and 80 s.
Changing World of Drug Intervention More professional and sophisticated field of prevention and treatment. More research information and technical know how. More accountability from funding resources. General recognition that there is no quick fix, or simple solution.
Community Coalitions Essential members of Community Coalitions Law enforcement Business Schools Treatment Faith community
Law Enforcement Role Reduce the availability of drugs. Increase the risk factor. Deliver the consequences of use. Maintain community standards.
The Role of Business Influence the age group with the most drug use. Sponsor Employee Assistance Programs. Provide effective public awareness information to employees develop employment standards that prohibit drug use.
Schools and Prevention Prevention activities in schools work when the community is mobilized. Prevention curricula must be age appropriate. Education needs booster efforts at approximately every other grade level. Availability of drugs to our young people is the greatest threat to us. Every effort must be made to cut off the supply of drugs to our young people.
Faith Community Must be in the leadership role in mobilization efforts. Is the source for public awareness. Is the first human dimension to leave when there is drug abuse.
