Seek The More Abundant Life! The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. John 10:10 Live longer/better here, plus enter into eternal life Enjoy total health: Physical, Mental, Spiritual, Social A Better Quality of Life
10 Health Habits That Will Help You Live to 100 You don't need to eat yogurt and live on a mountaintop, but you do need to floss By Deborah Kotz U.S.NEWS & WORLD REPORTS February 20, 2009, and updated January 2012
Here are the 10 Health Habits That Will Help You Live to 100! 1) Don t Retire 2) Floss Your Teeth daily 3) Move around: walk, bike etc.-don t sit all day 4) Build muscle with strength training 5) Get at least 6 hours of sleep daily 6) Consume whole foods, not supplements 7) Learn to cope with stress 8) Live like a Seventhday Adventist 9) Have a regular daily routine 10) Have regular social contacts with family and friends
What Does It Mean To: Live Like a Seventhday Adventist??
Does This Describe Us? 1) Live 10 years longer than the average American 2) Cherish our bodies which are on loan from God 3) No smoking, use of alcohol or overindulgence in sweets Follow a vegetarian diet: rich in fruits, vegetables, beans, whole grains and nuts Get plenty of exercise Focused on family and community
Another View of Seventh-day Adventists
Here is a book that looks at four places in the world where people live the longest: Sardinia, Italy; Okinawa, Japan; the Nicoya Peninsula, Costa Rica; and Loma Linda, California. Their living longer is not due to pills, surgery, or medications. Living longer in these Blue Zones involves lifestyle, and choices
Loma Linda s Blue Zone Secrets Have a sanctuary in time-the Sabbath Maintain a healthy body weight Regular moderate exercise Spend time with like minded friends-we go to church! Snack on nuts Give something back-do ministry Eat meat in moderationif at all. The author thinks this is a side dish for many of us Eat an early light dinner Put more fruit in the diet Drink plenty of water
What are We Really Doing? A Revealing Look At Diet in our Church
Adventist Health Study-2 ( ) Total vegetarians (vegan) 4% Lacto-ovo vegetarians 31% (eat eggs and dairy) Pesco vegetarians 11% (eat fish daily) Semi-vegetarians 6% ( eat meat more than once monthly, but less than once weekly) Non-vegetarians 46%
Adventist Health Study-2 A look at Black Church Members 25% of Black SDA s are Vegetarians On the average Black SDA s are overweight Average BMI for men 27.4 and for women 29.6 (This should be less than 25) Elevated BMI causes increased risk of diabetes, hypertension heart disease and certain cancers
Some Conclusions From The Adventist Health Study Frequent eating of fruits and vegetables lowers the risk of several cancers (colon, prostate) Eating nuts and whole grains reduces the risk of heart attack The closer you are to being vegetarian the lower the risk of high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and diabetes. The closer you are to being vegetarian, the better for weight control
The Adventist Health Message It Works!
It Started With A Vision In June, 1863 Ellen G. White received her first major health reform vision. She received other visions on health and wrote an extensive body of information that serves as the framework for our health ministry today. I saw that it was a sacred duty to attend to our health, and arouse others to their duty
ADDICTIONS The Diseases of The End Times Much Preventable Pain and Suffering
What would Jesus Do If He were here? And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. Matthew 4:23
What Does It Mean To: Live Like a Seventhday Adventist??
Living Like Jesus But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad as sheep having no shepherd. Matthew 9:36
Living Like A Seventh-day Adventist! To attend to our health To help others to attend to their health To live as Jesus did
