a s s i s t It s time to take control. EFFECTIVE WEIGHT LOSS, ON YOUR TERMS. Hanna, age 35 Lost 77 pounds with the AspireAssist
The AspireAssist hasn t just changed my body. It s changed my state of mind. ˮ Hampus, age 28 Lost 110 pounds with the AspireAssist
a s s i s t The AspireAssist puts you in the driver s seat. It works by allowing you to reduce the number of calories that your body absorbs, while helping you make gradual, healthy changes to your lifestyle. PROVEN RESULTS The device allows you to remove up to 30% of the calories after a meal, so you ll see results quickly. In fact, in a US clinical study, patients lost over 3 times more weight on average with the AspireAssist than those who received only diet and exercise counseling. HEALTHY LIFESTYLE With the AspireAssist, you will need to eat slowly and mindfully. This is an important part of healthy eating, because it allows time for fullness signals from your stomach to reach your brain, so you re less likely to overeat. REVERSIBLE The AspireAssist is intended for long-term use, but it can be easily removed at any time through a simple 10-minute procedure.
A SIMPLE 15-MINUTE PROCEDURE TO BEGIN A LIFETIME OF CHANGE. OUTPATIENT PROCEDURE The procedure takes just 15 minutes, and is usually done using twilight sedation to keep you comfortable. Once you are sedated, the tube is inserted through your mouth, into your stomach, and out through a half-inch incision in your abdomen. Most patients can go home within two hours, and are back to normal activities within a few days. TRIED AND TRUE TECHNOLOGY The procedure is the same as the procedure that s been used for decades to place feeding tubes, used for people who can t eat on their own. While the tubes look very similar, the AspireAssist works in reverse by allowing food to be removed from the stomach. ASPIRATING YOUR MEAL About twenty minutes after each meal, you ll empty, or aspirate, up to 30% of the meal in the privacy of a restroom. To aspirate, a small handheld device attaches to the button. The water reservoir helps to flush your stomach. A FLEXIBLE PLAN You should aim to aspirate 2 to 3 times per day. But we know that sometimes life gets it the way. if you miss an aspiration, it s okay. Your meal will be digested normally. System connected for Aspiration GETTING STARTED About two weeks after your procedure, you ll be ready to get started. You ll have a small button on the surface of your skin, where the tube exits your body.
Discreet button under clothing
The AspireAssist is a really great tool. I have to chew really well, so my portions have naturally gotten smaller. Hanna, age 35 (also appears on cover) Lost 77 pounds with the AspireAssist
LIVING WITH THE ASPIREASSIST NORMAL, HEALTHY MEALS The AspireAssist works differently from any other weight loss method. Like other methods, learning to make healthy choices is important for long-term results. But with the AspireAssist, there are no specific foods that are off-limits. You can go out to eat at a restaurant with your friends or family, and continue to enjoy socializing normally and healthfully. A NEW WAY TO ENJOY EATING You ll need to chew your food very carefully, to the size of a pencil eraser, and drink plenty of water. As an added benefit, eating slowly is well-known to help people reduce the amount they eat, because it gives time for fullness signals from the stomach to reach the brain. CAN I SWIM WITH THE ASPIREASSIST? Absolutely! You can continue all your normal activities. In fact, you might find yourself picking up new activities as you lose weight and feel healthier. WILL I GET HUNGRY AFTERWARDS? The AspireAssist only removes about 30% of the meal on average, so patients are generally not hungry after aspirating. Often we eat more than we need to because of emotions or our environment, so think of it as a method that helps correct portion sizes. Over time, you ll learn to address these emotional or environmental eating triggers through the counseling program. HOW LONG DO I KEEP THE ASPIREASSIST IN? Although it s intended as a long-term therapy, as you make healthy changes to your diet you may be able to use the device less often. Some people might want to remove the device after they reach their goal weight. This decision is up to you and your doctor. It is important that you make substantial changes to your lifestyle before removal to prevent weight regain.
TRACK RECORD OF SAFETY The AspireAssist does not have many of the risks associated with invasive surgical procedures. Your gastrointestinal anatomy is not altered, so you don t suffer the vomiting, diarrhea, reflux, or nutritional deficiencies seen with more invasive procedures. The AspireAssist has a low risk of serious complications, similar to feeding tubes which have been used for over 30 years. As there are risks with any medical procedure, it is important to discuss the potential risks and benefits of the AspireAssist with your doctor. In clinical studies, the most common complications were abdominal discomfort and irritation around the button area. Other less likely risks include infection, pain around the button area, and stomach ulceration, which can generally be resolved with conservative medical care, tube replacement, or tube removal.
Amber, age 33 Lost 70 pounds with the AspireAssist
The AspireAssist worked for me because it s not just a procedure. It s a complete package. Katarina, age 53 Lost 53 pounds with the Aspire Assist
WE RE WITH YOU, EVERY STEP OF THE WAY. The AspireAssist includes a comprehensive program with medical, nutritional and community support. MEDICAL FOLLOWUP You won t be on this journey alone. Your healthcare team will follow your progress throughout the first year, and for as long as you are using the AspireAssist. They ll make sure your weight loss is on track and that you are progressing in a healthy and sustainable way. LIFESTYLE COUNSELING Your healthcare team will offer lifestyle counseling to help you learn to make healthier choices, and identify and overcome your barriers to achieving long-term weight loss. ASPIRE COMMUNITY When you decide on the AspireAssist, you ll be joining a community of Aspire patients around the world. You ll have access to the Aspire online community, an excellent resource for support, motivation, and advice. We ll also invite you to any in-person events that may be in your area.
IS THE ASPIREASSIST RIGHT FOR ME? Talk to your doctor about whether the AspireAssist is right for you. It might be right for you if you: Are at least 22 years old Have a Body Mass Index (BMI) between 35 and 55 Have been unable to lose weight and keep it off through diet and exercise The AspireAssist works differently than other procedures, but it still requires a real commitment to be successful. Although you can make lifestyle changes more gradually than with other weight loss methods, you will need to chew your food very well for it to work. It might take much longer to eat your meals. Also consider whether you can commit 10 minutes after each meal to aspirate. Over time, it may become quicker as you get used to it. What s my BMI? WEIGHT IN POUNDS HEIGHT IN FEET/INCHES
Mike, age 59 Lost 104 pounds with the AspireAssist
I feel so normal and natural. I don t feel like I m dieting or depriving myself, and I m in control of how much weight I lose. Veronica, age 43 Lost 84 pounds with the AspireAssist
