From the CEO and Board Chair The cover of our report is adorned with the photo of eight-year-old Christian Yang, accompanied by a beautiful quote from his father, Tony. We are honored to have supported Christian s family last fall as we cared for his gifts of organ and tissue donation. Christian s story, like all donor stories, is bittersweet. From loss comes life; there is both tragedy and beauty in our work. For the past 25 years LifeSource has been humbled to fulfill our incredible mission where science and humanity meet and miracles are born. We have been privileged to support more than 7,800 grieving families whose loved ones have shared more than 12,500 organs and 150,000 tissue grafts to save and heal lives. Each of the thousands of donors we ve cared for has a story that is uniquely their own, and yet they are connected in donation. Their connections have created a ripple effect in our communities, helping build a culture of donation where 63% of us have registered as a donor. Our new River Road Headquarters, completed later this year, will be a place of hope and healing for all of the families we serve as well as everyone touched by the ripple effect our generous donors have created. We invite you to read the expanded version of this report on our website at www.life-source.org/yearahead. You ll learn more about our River Road Headquarters and how you can help us honor our 25th anniversary. You ll meet the athletes from Team MN-DAK who we are supporting as they prepare for the Donate Life Transplant Games of America in July. You ll see how we re partnering with our hospitals on cutting-edge technology and how we re developing our capacity to better serve our diverse communities. On behalf of everyone touched by donation and transplantation, thank you for your tireless support of our mission. With your help we can achieve our vision: Everyone shares the gift of life. Dance for Hope was the incredible conclusion of our 2013 Donate Life Symposium, a day-long education experience attended by more than 600 healthcare professionals in the Upper Midwest. The dance was inspired by tissue donor Danielle Renninger, her love for dance, and her spirit of giving. To date, Danielle s gifts of tissue have saved and healed eleven people across the country. even though she had to leave this world, she left it being a team player. Michelle Renninger, mother of tissue donor Danielle Renninger
In October 2013, we were honored to work with the family of eight-year-old Christian Yang. Christian gave the gifts of organ and tissue donation after his death, providing hope and life to four recipients. Christian s parents, Pricilla and Tony, also hope to be an inspiration within the Hmong community and help increase support for donation. Minutes feel like hours when you are waiting for hope for your child, shared Tony. Through donation, Christian will provide hope to others in desperate need. He will help them chase their dreams and goals, and for that we are so proud. Scan the QR code to watch Christian s story courtesy of KAAL-TV in Rochester, MN.
