DANCE MARATHON AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN 2016-2017 SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES Dance Marathon C/O CSG 4221 Michigan Union 530 South State Street Ann Arbor, MI 48104 www.dmum.org DANCE MARATHON AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN

Meet Conner Larson Dance Marathon has meant so much to our family. Conner was a 23 week preemie and started going to Beaumont therapy when he was 6 months old. He was just 2 years old the first year we participated in Dance Marathon. We found out about it through the social worker at Beaumont Rehab and thought we would give it a try. Over the years, DMUM has become a part of our lives and something our whole family looks forward to. He has come a long way in 8 years, but we have a lot of work to do. The things that make his life special and the times that have been the most memorable for him all revolve around Dance Marathon. So, while he doesn t love participating in team sports, he absolutely treasures the opportunity to come to U of M, see the Cube and carve pumpkins. He might not be able to do extra curricular activities through school as much as he would like, but because of Dance Marathon, he had the opportunity to fly in a 4 seater plane through Dreams and Wings. He has had the amazing experience of climbing to the top of a very big tree during a tree climbing therapy event. He had the chance to visit a museum on campus with a group of college students and ride around all of U of M on a bus and loved every second of it. This year, he got to eat dinner in one of the cafeteria s on campus. To him, this was a highlight of his year! He gets to do things that his typical peers don t get to do and for all of those experiences, his life is enriched and for those moments, he feels special and important. In addition to what Conner gets from all of his experiences with Dance Marathon programs directly, he also benefits greatly from the funds that are raised. Besides Dreams and Wings and tree climbing, Conner has also participated in groups over the years at Beaumont that receive funding from Dance Marathon, including Little Athletes, Dance, Handwriting, Eye Spy and many more. These groups are great for all kids in pediatric rehab. It gives them a chance to have fun and do a typical activity that is outside of their usual therapy. A child with special needs spends a lot of time in structured therapy and these groups give them a chance to just be a kid. These programs impact kids for years to come. -The Larson Family Dear Potential Sponsor, Dance Marathon at the University of Michigan (DMUM) is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt student-run nonprofit organization that is dedicated to raising funds and awareness for pediatric rehabilitation programs at C.S. Mott and Beaumont Children s Hospitals. As the largest student-run nonprofit in the state of Michigan, we have a membership body of over 1,200 students. DMUM s year-long efforts culminate into our capstone event, called VictorThon, which will be held on March 25-26th. VictorThon is a 24-hour event, where over a thousand student participants stand on their feet for a cause they believe in, to support and empower kids, and to shatter the stigma around disabilities. Since our founding in 1997, DMUM has raised nearly $6 million to support pediatric rehabilitation programs and therapies. Last year alone, we raised over $475,000. In celebration of our 20th year on campus, we aim to raise $520,000, a 10% increase from last year s fundraising amount. As a corporate partner, you have the opportunity to directly impact our organization and the lives of so many children and families. As Directors of this organization, we would like to formally invite you to join our efforts this year to help us reach our goal. As an official partner, you will have access to DMUM s greatest asset- our expansive reach- which extends across campus and across the country. Your company will have the ability to advertise to over 43,000 college students and their networks. We have many options for stewardship, and we are willing to be flexible in terms of the type of recognition we provide your business throughout the year and at VictorThon. Join us in celebrating DMUM s 20th year! We truly believe that your partnership with DMUM will be mutually beneficial. Feel free to contact us or our Corporate and Foundations Relations Chair, Akshada Apte, at any time via email (dmum. corporate@umich.edu) or by telephone (630.352.1697). We look forward to speaking with you in the near future and, on behalf of DMUM s Directors Council, we would like to thank you in advance for your time and consideration of Dance Marathon at the University of Michigan. Snapshots of Our Year! Snapshots of Our Year! THERAPIES Our variety of therapy programs focus on developing the physical, emotional, and social wellbeing of children with disabilities. Through therapies, such as dancing, martial arts, tree climbing, soccer, horseback riding, ice hockey, and yoga children with developmental disorders are given the supportive environment they require to play, learn and grow. Students involved with DMUM have the opportunity to volunteer with these therapies; gaining perspective while witnessing the direct impact they can make in someone s life. FAMILY EVENTS Our two main events are Pumpkin Carving and Charity Ball, where we bring our fantastic DMUM families and students together to get dressed up, play games, dance, and have all kinds of fun. These events personalize the DMUM experience for both the dancers and the kids. FUNDRAISING EVENTS To help dancers fundraise year round, we host events such as Benefit Dinners, Bar Nights, Bucketing Competitions, and a Gala. These events help to bring our organization together, introducing students and uniting them in their fundraising efforts. VICTORTHON CREATE. EMPOWER. BUILD. In the capstone event of our year, hundreds of dancers stand on their feet for 24 hours to show their dedication to our cause. VictorThon, previously known as the Marathon, is hours of fun for students and families, with games, line dancing, and performances by students and kids! By staying awake and on our feet, we gain insight into the challenges and frustration that the children we support overcome every day.

THANK YOU for your time and consideration! forever FTK Dance Marathon is such an incredible organization, one made up of amazing people. No one can visit the Marathon and not come away impressed by the passion and dedication the students have for their cause. It is a privilege to help them reach their goals. - JIM KIRK OF UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN CREDIT UNION, 16-YEAR SPONSOR OF DMUM Please contact us with questions, for more information, or to secure a sponsorship Corporate Foundation Relations Chair Akshada Apte Executive Director Allison Sheehan dmum.exec@umich.edu External Director Raza Khan dmum.external@umich.edu
