Heart To Heart Mended Hearts at Landmark, Chapter #338 November, 2012 Aligned with the American College of Cardiology It s great to be alive - and to help others! VO LUME 7 WWW.MENDEDHEARTS338.ORG ISSUE 9 MESSAGE FROM OUR PRE SIDENT The storms in our life -Sandy, Bob, Carol, Irene, heart attacks, open heart surgery, angina, valve replacement and much more. All these storms are something for us to weather and learn from. Fortunately, Sandy did not affect us as much as predicted. Fortunately, I discovered Mended Hearts to help me weather the heart storms in myself and others I care about and for. Don't be afraid to approach others who are working their way through their own storms. Please let them know that our doors are always open. We welcome new members. Our guest speakers have left us with so many ideas to help us understand our condition and what we can do to improve our lives. We need to share these ideas with as many people as possible. Please let us know if you have any ideas to share. I was fortunate to spend last week in San Diego. I can certainly understand why it was chosen for the Mended Hearts convention. San Diego is a beautiful city with many buildings influenced by Spanish architecture. I saw at least two major centers for cardiac patients. The weather was perfect for breathing. Please try to continue to sell all the tickets you were given. Whoever attends will certainly be able to use all the financial help we can give them. Airfare is not cheap unless you are lucky. Hotels are not cheap and neither is food. Selling tickets will not only help anyone who attends the convention, but the division of profits also helps our group. Carolyn and Terri have lots more tickets if you need them. Sue Mended Hearts Inc. was founded in 1951 and incorporated in 1955. It is a national non-profit volunteer support group dedicated to providing help, encouragement and support to heart disease patients and their families. VOLU ME 7 WWW.ME NDED HE ARTS338.ORG ISSU E 9 Page 2 Veterans Day: A Time for Appreciation We all recognize the solemn moment of "the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month." We bow our heads in recognition of the end of World Wars I and II. Most of all, on Veterans Day, we remember and honor the veterans of all American wars and conflicts. We show our gratitude in many ways. Some of us will attend parades, ceremonies or prayer services. Others will take time to remember family members and friends who served in past and present conflicts. Many of us will just clap a veteran on the back and say, "Hey, thanks veteran!" Young and old alike, you can clasp their hands and say, "Thank you for serving." You won't have a hard time finding a veteran. According to the National Center for Veterans Analysis and Statistics, there are about 2,600,000 living United States military veterans. Veterans themselves usually take a joyful view of the event. They may gather to celebrate with their buddies, sometimes having a party with fellow unit members who have come from some distance away for the gathering. It's a popular time for reunions. Veterans Day celebrations at the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) and the American Legion clubs include music, dancing, dining and more, often arranged by the women's auxiliaries. The revelry, however, comes to an abrupt silence for a few moments in recognition of "The 11th Hour." We wish a Happy Birthday to the following Mended Hearts member In November: Roland Archambault Dan Couture George Kortyna Jim Sullivan Humor... is the best medicine!!! A snail was in France and went to a Cadillac dealer. He wanted to buy a Cadillac, and he wanted a large letter "S" on the doors, the hood and trunk. The dealer did this, and the snail bought the car. He zoomed out of the dealership. Some Americans saw him speeding up the road. One of the Americans said to the other, "Man, look at that S-CAR GO!" Please notify Claudette Marquis, by phone or email to let her know if you or any member or friend of our Chapter is in need of some cheer (illness, recovery, death in family). Claudette will send a card on behalf of the chapter with best wishes from all of us! Claudette Marquis (401) 765-0824 clore22@msn.com Remember to check out our website: www.mendedhearts338.org
