COURSE DESCRIPTION: Assessment and Treatment of Age Related Balance Impairment For OT's, OTA's, PT's, PTA's (Level: Intermediate) Speaker: Jamie V. Birmingham, RPT September 26 th, 2009 Target audience includes: OT, OTA, PT, and PTA disciplines. OBJECTIVES / OUTCOMES: After completion of course, the participant should be able to : 1. Discuss age-related changes that contribute to falls in older adults 2. Discuss the incidence and causes of falls in the elderly 3. Identify intrinsic and extrinsic factors that can increase risk for falls 4. Perform balance tests and discuss strengths and weaknesses of each 5. Develop and document treatment plans when given pertinent medical and functional information ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Many of you will recognize our speaker from her work with Integra last year when she delivered a wound care and a modality course for our associates. She received such rave reviews that we are excited to bring her back for this critical training. Jamie Birmingham, RPT comes to us with years of experience in clinical treatment, public speaking and course instruction. We believe her energetic personality and positive attitude make Mrs. Birmingham a dynamic, effective, as well as entertaining presenter. Mrs. Birmingham received her degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Florida. She has an impressive background in rehabilitation in inpatient, outpatient, and home health settings, with a specialty in wound care. As owner and chief instructor of JVB Enterprises, Inc., she is dedicated to providing quality continuing education. Integra partnered with Jamie in 2008 to bring continuing education opportunities in wound care and in physical agent modalities to its associates.
