1 P Paws With A Cause 4646 South Division Wayland, MI YOU RE INVITED 2018 CONFERENCE May 18 19, 2018

2 P 2018 CONFERENCE May 18 19, 2018 S Animal Assisted Intervention (AAI) Dogs work with physical, occupational, and recreational therapists, and speech-language pathologists to help patients meet rehabilitation goals that will help in daily life. Patients working on hand dexterity and fine motor skills give AAI Dogs treats and groom them. In speech therapy, patients ask AAI Dogs to perform tasks. Children with poor muscle tone pet them. Patients learning to walk are encouraged to go a little farther as an AAI Dog walks by their side. The presence of an AAI Dog lifts the spirits of patients who need encouragement. HOSTED BY P WITH A CAUSE Paws P VANDY is an AAI Dog who works on the recreational therapy team at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital. Photo Credit: Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital

3 P CONFERENCE May 18 19, 2018 Animal Assisted Intervention (AAI) is an innovative therapy with proven results. Physical, occupational, and recreational therapists, and speech-language pathologists integrating AAI Dogs into therapy have seen more effective outcomes in less time. Other members of the healing professions such as nurses, psychologists, and social workers have also found ways to integrate dogs into therapy. Are you curious to learn more about animal assisted intervention, the impact it may have on your therapy program, and ways it can improve success? Paws Inspiring Progress will host industry experts with AAI Dog experience. They will teach: Ways AAI Dogs benefit patients How AAI Dogs benefit healthcare and human service providers Ways to work with AAI Dogs The care and costs of AAI Dogs Potential professional and liability risks Effective patient-screening tactics DAY 1 This will cover the building blocks of animal assisted intervention everything from the human-animal bond to standards of practice. A variety of interactive activities will teach basic intervention activities using dogs on-site. Ongoing training with an AAI Dog and handlers DAY 2 This will build off the basics, using hands-on demonstrations with a working AAI Dog. Workshops will teach how to build bonds between an AAI Dog and patients, techniques for therapy, and training requirements.
