Role: To help to ensure patients, carers and the public are actively and appropriately involved in all aspects of the Trust s business. Groups meet approximately bimonthly and comprise patients, carers, public and key Trust staff. Topics discussed include clinical innovations; former Trust s policies, such as complaints policy, handover policy, end of life policy, etc; community responder scheme; patient transport service, etc. Workshops held in January/February 2007 to elicit involvement in the Trust s PPI strategy and action plan 2007/2008. PPI in development of Trust business plan. Workshop held in March, with chief executive Paul Sutton and other executive directors discussing key areas of the business plan with patients and the public and obtaining their views and suggestions. Papers must evidence PPI in order to obtain Trust Board approval. Relationship with Trust PPI forum wellestablished and developing links with others across SECAmb area. Engagement and awareness-raising activities carried out on an ad hoc, on request basis. Engagement with Brighton & Hove Carers Forum Cover sheet for documents going to the Trust Board for approval requests confirmation and evidence of patient and public involvement in order to be approved by the Board. Trust now has a regular slot on the SECAmb PPIF meeting s agenda, and PPIF chair attends board meetings with speaking rights. Presentations given to and links established with various other PPIFs across Kent, Surrey and Sussex. Talks and presentations provided to carers groups, PPI forums, groups of staff from GP practices and other NHS organisations, pensioners group, laryngectomee groups, and schools. PPI Forum Liaison Group Learning from PALS and complaints feedback Event in March to elicit patient, public and staff involvement (albeit belatedly) to ensure a robust and complete DES which is owned by all. The Trust is proactive in its approach to sharing its draft and final declarations with the PPIF, providing support to the PPIF wherever possible. Since announcement of the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Ambulance Trust merger the PPI Forum Liaison Group was established to facilitate closer working and improved communication between the predecessor Forum s and Ambulance Trusts. The level of Patient Advice and Liaison Services enquiries received by trust increase year on year, this feedback in conjunction with complaints is used to inform the development and improvement of our services.
