You re Invited to the 2019 4-H ONTARIO VOLUNTEER CONFERENCE & ANNUAL MEETING When: March 22-24, 2019 Where: Nottawasaga Inn Resort, 6015 Highway 89, Alliston, ON L9R 1A4 Conference Hosts: Region 2 volunteers and 4-H Ontario Staff Greetings on behalf of the 4-H Ontario Conference Committee You are invited to the 2019 4-H Ontario Volunteer Conference Growing for the Future, Grounded in the Past with Region 2. Over the past few months, representatives from across Region 2 have been planning an interactive and experiential learning program for you to enjoy. Once again 4-H Ontario is offering an early bird registration as well as single day and specific event registrations. All registrations will be done on-line. When registering please be sure to click off all aspects of the conference you will be attending. The Ontario 4-H Council Annual Meeting will be held on the Friday evening and all interested delegates are invited to attend. The Ontario 4-H Foundation Annual Meeting will take place on Saturday afternoon. Saturday and Sunday agenda includes an exciting offering of workshops, volunteer appreciation luncheon and dinner, motivational speakers and well deserved social and networking opportunities. We hope you will join us on this exciting 4-H journey as we grow to for the future at the 2018 4-H Ontario Volunteer Conference March 22-24, 2019 at the Nottawasaga Inn Resort in Alliston. Let s Grow for the Future while Grounded in Our Past at 2019 4-H Ontario Volunteer Conference! The pre-conference activities begins on Friday, March 22, 2019 with hotel and conference registration, networking, resource displays, dinner and the Ontario 4-H Council Annual General Meeting (AGM). The energy and excitement heightens on Saturday, March 23, 2019 with the Conference kick off and plenary session. The morning activities also include regional jam sessions and the first round of workshops. Lunch on Saturday will be a sit down meal and presentation of the Volunteer Milestone Awards. The afternoon is filled with more hands on type workshops and activities, as well as the opportunity to attend the Ontario 4-H Foundation Annual General Meeting. All delegates are invited to attend the prestigious 4-H Ontario Arbor Award dinner and presentations. Be sure to bring your bidding arm to participate in the 4-H Ontario Live Auction. Saturday caps off with entertainment and a social and networking time. Sunday, March 24, 2019 features a keynote address by Senator Rob Black. Rounding out the agenda is the 2019 Conference closing followed by the launch by Region 5 of the 2020 Conference and brunch, then onward home to share with fellow 4-H volunteers experience at the 2019 Conference! **2019 CAM Workshop Topics Livestock Check In: Join this workshop to learn the up to date information regarding Livestock Traceability and Premise Identification as it relates to livestock shows and 4-H Achievement Days and competitions. Our Health to Better Living: When we pledge our health to better living, we are talking more than just physical health. Mental health, like physical health, is a key component of what makes us well. This workshop will explore ways to identify mental health issues and help dismantle barriers to positive youth mental health. Embracing Technology in Your Club: With technology available in many different mediums, there s an opportunity to bring it into our 4-H clubs as a learning tool. Learn from fellow volunteers how to embrace technology and let it be a tool for learning, sourcing information and communicating and bring your club into the technology world. Spotlight on Resources Cloverbud- Farm Safety: Explore fun activities for 4-H aged 6-8-year old s relating to livestock, machinery and ATV safety. Sponsored by Workplan Safety and Prevention Services Farm to Table Connections: This project resources introduces 4-H members to local food systems in their community and to give them an opportunity to create their own small business or those who want to work together to operate a pop-up event. Ontario s Tasty Fruits and Vegetables: This project resource is a combination of the existing A Taste of Ontario s Fruits & Vegetables Power of Produce and Food Preservation 4-H projects and includes tips for enjoying a buffet of tasty Ontario produce. Sponsored by Cowan Insurance. Financial Fitness: Take fitness to a new level of understanding through information on money management skills including budgeting, investments, credit ratings and more. Explore the Opportunities: 4-H Canada offers engaging and high-quality national programs that fosters positive youth development in four pillars: Community Engagement and Communications, Science and Technology, Environment and Healthy Living and Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security. Taking 4-H Ontario Into the Next Decade: 4-H Ontario is embarking on a new strategic plan that will take the organization into the next decade. Join this workshop and learn about the new and innovative initiatives, enhanced youth and volunteer strategies that will take 4-H into the future. Rolling Out the Welcome Mat: Volunteer engagement begins with the initial contact. Explore the tried and true best practices of welcoming new 4-H volunteers and fostering senior members transition to active volunteers. Frequently Asked Questions Q. Who is eligible to attend the Volunteer Conference and AGM? A. All 4-H volunteers are invited to attend. Each Association is encouraged to send at least two people. One person should be the Association Representative (AR), or designate, who will be the voting delegate for the Ontario 4-H Council Annual General Meeting. 4-H volunteers in good standing are individuals 18 years older who are screened and trained. Q. What s in it for me? A. The 4-H Ontario Volunteer Conference is an opportunity to acquire enhanced leadership skills at workshops and network with other 4-H Ontario volunteers. At the conference you will meet other 4-H volunteers who share a passion for positive youth development and obtain new ideas to take back to your club, Association and region. In addition you will have the chance to share knowledge and expertise with others and have some fun too! The weekend also includes the AGM s for the Ontario 4-H Council and the Ontario 4-H Foundation. These AGM s provide the opportunity to learn about the policy and fund raising arms of 4-H Ontario. Q. How do I register? A. The on- registration stream lines the process for both volunteers and 4-H staff. Direct accommodation registration with the Nottawasaga Inn Resort makes it easier for volunteers to arrange their accommodations

directly with the host facility verses going through a third party (4-H staff). This way, you can choose your roommate and room yourself. There are two steps to the registration: conference and accommodation Conference Registration: To register for the conference visit www.4-hontario.ca/cam and complete the on-line registration. Payment for the conference can be made at the same time using VISA or Mastercard. PLEASE NOTE: Only on-line registrations and credit card payment accepted. Incomplete forms and registrations without accompanying payment will not be accepted. Accommodation: To book accommodations you can phone the Nottawasaga Inn Resort (phone Toll Free: 800-669- 5501). When booking accommodations please reference Reservation Code refer to 4-H Conference in order to receive the conference accommodation rate. NOTE: Delegates are responsible for booking their own accommodations. Association Representatives will receive separate communication about the conference registration. Q. Is there an early bird registration? A. 4-H Ontario is pleased to provide an early bird registration. This provides an opportunity for individuals and Associations to save money by registering early. It also guarantees that delegates, when booking accommodations at the Nottawasaga Inn Resort, will be assured availability. The early bird registration ends January 30, 2019. The standard registration runds from January 31 to February 20. Late Registration fee is offered February 21 to March 6. The Nottawasaga Inn Resort is holding a block of rooms at a conference rate for 4-H Ontario conference delegates until February 20. The reduced rate or room availability will not be guaranteed after February 20. REMEMBER: All delegates must book their own accommodations directly with Nottawasaga Inn Resort. The Nottawasaga Inn Resort has specific policies regarding reservations and cancellations. Please ask about these cancellation policies when making your reservation. Q. I only want to attend part of the weekend. Is there a separate registration for different events? A. Yes there are separate registrations for the Council AGM, Saturday only, Volunteer Milestone lunch and Arbor Award Dinner. Single and Full Weekend completed registrations with payment must be received by February 20, 2018. Volunteer Recognition Luncheon and 4-H Ontario Arbor Award Banquet tickets must be purchased by March 8, 2018 To register please complete the on-line registration. Payment for the conference can be made at the same time using VISA or Mastercard. PLEASE NOTE: Incomplete registrations without accompanying payment will not be accepted. Q. I am not the voting delegate for my Association. Do I still need to attend the AGM? A. We encourage all 4-H volunteers to participate, however only voting delegates are required to attend the AGM. Q. How do I get to Nottawasaga Inn Resort? A. The Nottawasaga Inn Resort is located 45 minutes north of Toronto at 6015 Highway 89, Alliston, ON L9R 1A4. http://www.nottawasagaresort.com/map.html. All participants are asked to make their own travel arrangements. Association Representatives travel expense for attending the AGM and Volunteer Conference are covered as per the Ontario 4-H Council Expense Policy. See ww.4-hontario.ca/cam. If flying, delegates can make shuttle arrangements through the Simcoe Airport Shuttle http://www.simcoecountyairportservice.ca/. Q: Is there a cancellation policy for the conference and accommodations?

A: Delegates who decide to cancel should first try to find an alternate. If the cancellation is due to a family emergency/illness, the conference registration fee minus the $20 administration fee will be refunded if cancellation is received within two weeks (10 business days) of the Conference. The Nottawasaga Inn Resort has specific policies regarding reservations and cancellations. Please ask about these cancellation policies when making your reservation.
