Successful completion of the training programme will include satisfactory completion of the ISFE examination in. The Educational supervisor for Post CCST 1 will be Charlotte Eckhardt and Post CCST 2 Jeremy Knox. PARTICIPATING HOSPITALS Morriston Hospital, ABMU Health Board. ABMU Health Board serves a population of around 600,000 people and employs over 16,000 staff. The Health Board holds a University title and works closely with Swansea University and its Medical School, along with other university and college partners in Wales. The Orthodontic department forms part of the Maxillofacial Unit within Morriston Hospital, Swansea. It is a 15 chair integrated department that has close working relationships with both the maxillofacial and restorative departments. There is a large maxillofacial laboratory serving all three specialties. The Orthodontic department moved into a new, purpose built outpatient facility at Morriston Hospital in August 2015. South West Wales is relatively well supplied with Specialist Orthodontic Practices offering orthodontic care within the primary sector. With the encouragement and collaboration of our main commissioning bodies, Morriston Hospital s Orthodontic Service has sought to compliment rather than compete with provision elsewhere. This approach has yielded referrals of an increasingly interesting and challenging case mix, a high proportion of which are now tertiary referrals. Job Description FTTA (2017) 2

Access criteria limit clinical activity, largely, to multi-disciplinary care requiring regular combined Orthognathic clinics held with the Maxillofacial Surgery Teams and Hypodontia clinics with the Restorative Dentistry Team. This work is not suited to provision in the primary sector. The Cleft Lip and Palate service for South Wales is based at Morriston Hospital with all primary and secondary surgery and regular MDT clinics delivered in Swansea. Hemifacial Microsomia and Craniofacial MDT clinics are also held in Morriston. The Orthodontic clinical team now includes 3 consultants, 4 Orthodontic therapists, 1 Specialty Doctor and 2 part time clinical assistants. The posts advertised will offer an opportunity to contribute to postgraduate and therapist education. Other opportunities for the delivery of postgraduate education are available through the Cardiff University, Dental Postgraduate Department. University Dental Hospital, Cardiff The University Dental hospital is situated in Cardiff just off the A48 on the site of the main University of Wales College of Medicine campus. The Department has a 12- chair polyclinic. There are a range of combined clinics including multidisciplinary clinics and a cleft lip and palate clinics. Regular Audit meetings are held and the Post CCST trainees are expected to play an active role in preparation and presentation of projects. A specially prepared database is available for the Post CCST trainees to record their treatment portfolio and prepare logbooks etc. The Post CCST trainees will also be expected to participate in the Departmental Journal Club to help in the preparation for the critical appraisal section of ISFE, and didactic teaching sessions. The trainees will be invited to attend the South West Post CCST training days There is a large research laboratory and academic senior facilities are available to support structural training. Study Leave Trainees will be expected to attend national and international meetings as appropriate to their stage of training, subject to the appropriate discretion of employing Consultants in Trusts. Attendance at postgraduate courses is strongly encouraged and trainees are expected to present papers at Unit, National and International Meetings. The Postgraduate Dean has developed a programme of modular workshops, to address generic educational needs to all trainees in all disciplines. This will cover management issues, clinical effectiveness, medical education, medical law and medical ethics. All Post CCST trainees will be expected to attend these courses. Conditions of Service a) The posts are covered by the Terms and Conditions of Service for Hospital Medical and Dental Staff (England and Wales) and the General Whitley Council Terms and Conditions of Service as amended in negotiation with the Trust Medical and Dental Staff Negotiating Committee. Details of these may be obtained from the Dental Personnel Department. b) The posts are nominally full time but requests for less than full time training (LTFT) would be considered. Trainees will be advised of the working pattern for these posts prior to taking up your appointment. c) Applications for annual leave must be submitted in writing to the Personnel Department at least six weeks before leave is taken. It must also be requested having first taken into account your colleagues leave so as to enable adequate clinical cover to be maintained. Conditions of Appointment a) You must provide us with evidence that is acceptable to the Occupational Health Department, that you are not a carrier of Hepatitis B. This would normally be a pathology report from a laboratory in the UK or alternatively a report from another NHS Occupational Health Department within the UK. It will not be possible to confirm this appointment unless this condition is met. Before starting work you may therefore need to attend the Occupational Health Department for assessment. If this is not possible, then you must attend on the day you start work. b) The Health Board will require the successful candidate to have, and maintain, full registration with the General Medical Council/General Dental Council throughout the duration of the contract. Job Description FTTA (2017) 5

c) As you will only be indemnified for duties undertaken on behalf of the Cardiff and Vale ULHB and ABMU HB, you are strongly advised to ensure that you have appropriate Professional Defence Organisation Cover for duties outside the scope of the ULHB, and for private activity within the ULHB. d) The Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2000 impose a legal responsibility on ULHBs for all staff that refer patients for medical radiation exposure, such as diagnostic x-rays, to supply sufficient data to enable those considering the request to decide whether the procedure is justified. Job Limitation At no time should you work at a level exceeding your competence. All dental staff therefore have a responsibility to inform those supervising their duties if they have any concerns regarding this or if they feel that they are not competent to perform a particular duty.
