December 8, 2016 Jim Ives, Editor Thursday s Meeting Summary Past President Merritt Robertson handed out ballots today as we entered the meeting for the Dearborn Rotary 2017-2018 Board of Directors election. Ten candidates were listed and we were to vote for eight. Results were to come later in the meeting. President Regan Ford led today s meeting, which opened with the singing of the National Anthem. He also did the invocation, which was a prayer keeping the Ives family in your thoughts regarding recent passing of Jim s father plus giving thanks for Rotary. Today s greeter, Kathleen Gapa, had no guests to introduce, so there was no traditional serenading. President Regan announcements included: Hines Drive PM Rotary Club is having a Club Charter Party at Bailey s Pub in Dearborn on Friday, 12-9- 2016, at 6:00 PM. Cost is $20. and there is a sign-up sheet being passed around. Support this new Rotary Club we helped sponsor. Jim Mackey is retiring from the Club at the end of the year and we need a new Sergeant at Arms. Plus volunteer if you have time available weekly to set-up and take-down Rotary meeting displays. You have until 12-15-2016 to recieve special discounted registration fee for the June Rotary International Convention in Atlanta. Our 12-15-2016 Club Meeting includes a holiday concert by the Henry Ford College Chorus. We will also have an ugly Christmas sweater contest on that date, too. Winner will receive a gift card to Subway. Please invite guests to next weeks meeting to enjoy the chorus. Janice Gilliland passed a sign-up sheet for greeters and invocation givers beginning January 1, 2017. Please volunteer share your thoughts for the week or give our members and guests a welcoming hello. Neil Allen had a sympathy card for us to sign for the Ives family regarding Jim s father recent passing. Neil described Jim s father, Bill, as a great guy and a tremendous Rotarian. Bill was a fixture at Rotary conventions and a great song leader. Neil was also familiar with Bill because Bill served on the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Detroit YMCA while Neil worked there. PE Bob Gleichauf said we are halfway through Santa Snaps. Need volunteers for next Tuesday and Thursday. Event is getting busier as we get closer to Christmas. Possibly could use a second shift of Santas the last week of the event. Please volunteer to be a Santa or ask someone you know to be a Santa volunteer. One of Colleen Nieman s parishioners has volunteered to be Santa twice. Jim Mackey led the 50/50 raffle today. President Regan drew the winning ticket. Roger Miller was the winner of $11. Today s meeting was a Club Assembly. Topic was a committee workday. President Regan had signs for each avenue of service or special service placed on the tables. We broke into groups and talked about the activities of the various committees. Club Directors sat at appropriate committee tables. Goal was to talk about ongoing projects and also to get members to volunteer to serve on different committees. The results of the 2017-2018 Dearborn Rotary Board of Directors election were announced. Elected Board members were: David Anderson, Hassen Hammoud, Colleen Nieman, Shannon Peterson, Eric Rader, Sue Surducan, Waseem Younis, and Bob Ziolkowski. The upcoming Board members were thanked for volunteering their time for service. Rotary meeting ended with singing of God Bless America.
